If anyone else goes to the South mountain reservation (NJ)...but I guess this could happen in any off leash area...there's a dingbat owner with a white pitty...not fixed and ready to start in on every other male dog in the park. You cannot "calm him down" folks. His owners had three altercations while we were there. We were listening from the small doggie side where everyone was herding over to. The third time Lucky or Rocky pulled his owner down too, only then did they realize maybe it was time to go home...duh, either fix your dog, get a professional trainer or don't try to socialize this boy, you're gonna have a tragic lawsuit eventually...I'm just sayin'

I would not go there anymore. In fact I stay away from pet socialization areas regardless of breed of dogs.

Scenarios like the above are far too common and that is why I am not nor have ever been a fan of off lead dog parks period-regardless of breed.
You are correct this is an accident waiting to happen not only for the white pitty and his owner but anyone else in their presence. It is still possible to enjoy the outdoors with your pet and socialize them without taking the risk of going to an off leash dog park.
My husband used to take his dog to South Mountain Reservation years ago and experienced similar situations as well as, witnessing some owners whose dogs were off leash run away to chase (as you know) the ton of deers running around there!

THere's a huge fenced in 9 acre dog park down here that is posted "dogs must be on leash" but there are far too many people that take their dogs there off leash.
I trail walk Jackie on a 30' lead out near my house. She still gets to experience the outdoors and i dont have to worry about my poor recall.

I wouldn't go there anymore either. I've never been to a dog park, but I have an older friend with two Jack Russell's that always asks me to meet her there with my dogs. Not gonna happen. I talked to one of Bella's previous owners and they said they took her to the dog park all the time. One time I guess she went after some horse back riders. They thought it was funny. ???
