*BEFORE YOU SCROLL DOWN, PLEASE BE WARNED THAT THE PICS MAY BE UPSETTING TO SOME... but it's a story with a happy ending!*
This past week, I did my first non-pit rescue. We had an adopter (friend/coworker) who specifically wanted a Boxer. Very long story, so I won't get into all the details, but fate was at work for this dog last week. We pulled a Boxer who was taken out of an urgent situation by the same high-kill ACF we pulled Cassie from. Neighbors had reported that a young male Boxer was being horribly abused and neglected by a family that had owned him since he was 8 weeks old. He was being kept in a crate almost 24/7 because the Chi's in the house hated him, and so the kids hated him too. He had scarring on his back because the teenage son in the house threw fireworks at him. He's the skinniest and most malnourished dog that I have personally worked with outside of volunteering at the MO bust bunker in July 2009.
In any case... WHAT AN AWESOME DOG! He has an incredible temperament. So happy and friendly, and such a cuddly little love bug. We picked him up from his transport on Saturday morning and he spent the weekend with us. He got all his vet work and microchip done this morning and went to his new home. The adopters are awesome people and they fell in love right away. He had a giant new bed and tons of toys waiting for him. I complain about how hard rescue is... and it is. But this one in particular just made my year.
Here are some pics... I will be doing follow-up with the adopters next month and will get some new pics of him all fat and happy so you can see the before/after.
*BTW, please do not share these pics outside of the forum. Thanks.*
He really isn't as ugly as he looks in this pic, lol!
These show his scars and how skinny he is. His brindle coat is beautiful, though. The vet said that he is actually in pretty good health, considering. No rickets or bone damage.
I will post updated pics when he gets healthy. I just had to share this, because it was such a meaningful rescue for me.
