Brandy had quite an adventure on Sunday morning. I was in the shower during the whole incident, so it was entirely Brook's fault.
He was cleaning the garage and talking to the neighbor when some kids came up to the house asking for donations of canned goods for a school food drive. He went into the house to find some stuff to give them, and when he came back out he didn't close the door from the garage into the house. All the other dogs must have still been in bed or something, because Brandy was the only one who noticed the opportunity. She ran out through the garage, past Brook, and over to the neighbor. Brook yelled at her to sit, which she did... for 2 seconds before she took off down the street. She ran across the busy street that crosses our street, got about four houses down, ran into someone's driveway where a car was parked, jumped through the open passenger side window of the car onto an old woman's lap, and crawled into the back seat to lie down. The old woman's daughter was standing in the driveway next to the car just frozen in shock. Brook was right behind Brandy yelling at them that she's friendly and wouldn't hurt them. He said that they were actually very nice to her and let her give them kisses.
Thank jeebus that she didn't get run over, and that she jumped into a car with an old lady and not someone who might have hurt her because they thought she was attacking them. If an unknown dog came at me out of nowhere like that, I don't know that I would have enough time to be able to tell if the dog was going to attack me or if it was just overly friendly. We took Brandy back to the woman's house later - on leash this time - to apologize and she was really nice about it. She loved Brandy up and told her that she could come visit any time since they're friends now, which I thought was really sweet and cute. She said that Brandy is the second pit bull that she has ever met, and that the other one was just as sweet. That was very refreshing to hear!
Brook felt so bad... he said that he feels like the irresponsible owners that we're always complaining about. Just goes to show that mistakes happen with responsible people too. This is only the second time that a dog has gotten away from us. Barley is the only other one, and it was on his first day home with us when he broke his leash and made a run for it. That was Brook's fault too, LOL!
