I'm hoping that his voice over in the middle of all the beautiful pit bull'dom will sound silly.
Gawd, poor Ingrid must be just sick to her stomach by now.
Thanks for the kudos guys.

Haha yeah who's idea was it for Goodwin to open his mouth? Totally ruins the flow of the piece - otherwise I loved it and thought it was perfect.

Marthina, you and Leo were great!
Now here is my big question: How do all these rescue people have such nice houses? Not only do the animals sap my bank account dry, but I could never have such nice rugs and furniture, and it's not just from the cats. Of course maybe if I had nice rugs and furniture to start with, things would be easier.
I must admit, I didn't really like seeing the BF dogs in outdoor kennels in the snow. In other shots, they had them indoors in crates. I wonder how that works...

Valliesong,
You are so funny! You're welcome to come hear and see it up close!!! Yikes! I was just griping to my roomates about how bad the carpet looks right now. It looks like WAY too many dogs live here. Ask MaryC she sees it all the time.
I live with 2 other roomates and we all clean and share responsibilities but in one day it seems that everything looks disgusting to me. Thanks for that nice vote it made me feel better.
I agree with you, I can't stand to see dogs outside without a pack or family interaction as a way of life for them. It's so inherent to them to live as a group. However, I hear that BF does an awesome job at working with the dogs and they look good. When I was a kid that's how it was. Animals were farm/yard workers and stayed outside (until I sneaked somebody in) and it bothered me even then as I was being brought up.
I think at BF they all take turns bringing the dogs into their living quarters and they spend a lot of hours with them outside playing, exercising and dog to dog play if appropriate. This is just what I've heard.
Washington Post gave us permission to put the front page up on our webpage. Yay. I'm so proud of my dogs. I was hoping that Ingrid might have a cup of coffee and read it first thing in the morning last Monday to just get things jump started.

Not only do the animals sap my bank account dry, but I could never have such nice rugs and furniture, and it's not just from the cats. Of course maybe if I had nice rugs and furniture to start with, things would be easier. .... Well, for any organization that has 501(c)3 status with the IRS, you can look up their tax returns, where they must report income/expenses and list directors and compensation if any. www.guidestar.org/ is a simple way to search. (Many rescues are small operations that don't have IRS nonprofit status and may not be required to file returns at all, so no information would be available) For the last reported year, 2006, for example, Bad Rap paid a salary only to their executive director (Donna), of a little over $14k. Presumably the organization also properly reimbursed any officer or board member for expenses they incurred doing BR business, but this would not be considered salary (except where I work, but that's another story...) The organization actually showed a loss, spending more than they took in. Their budget is small. Next year's report may be quite different given the Vick money and other payments they may also have (properly) received for services such as the workshops. So however nice the houses look, I don't think they got that way from the rescue work.

You're so right. You don't do this kind of work for money that's fo sho! We didn't have to file as we didn't take in enough to as you said. Verifiable on that site. It's a sort scrimp type of thing. Pay for this that etc. We don't really get many donations at all, even recently. We've gotten wonderful awards etc from Animal Farm that you can see on their site. www.animalfarmfoundation.org which is SO helpful. BLESS those people. What they do is amazing and they really want to help folks like us strugglin' along. Without them.......heck. Yes, put in more than you get is mostly it. Additionally, I have 2 roomates otherwise it ain't gonna happen. I do this cuz I really wanna. The Vick case didn't give enough to carry the dog through his life. There's been a lot of talk about it. It's public knowledege what was given but nobody got rich off the dogs that's for sure. I know what you're saying about BR as there's more to report this year.

Believe me, I didn't mean they made the money off of rescue! I was just surprised because I know so many shelter/rescue people who end up cutting themselves short - especially those who work at animal shelters. You're lucky if you can make $10 an hour working at a shelter, and we all know those hidden medical costs that rescue dogs have. And the mess the dogs make!
It actually makes me ashamed of my house. LOL I try to save money so most of what we own is second-hand and mismatched (though I am lucky enough to have some antiques), and our house is an 1840s fixer-upper that we haven't yet fixed up. Someday I promise myself it will be restored and furnished with antiques. I can't wait to get rid of the carpet and refinish the floors, but the kitchen is coming first...
Sorry to get off topic! It was meant as a compliment, I assure you.

Oh I didn't take it bad at all. I knew what you meant. No worries. And thanks for such a nice compliment. Yep we don't get rich in rescue. OK, back to the carpets. I want to take mine out SO bad. They're suppose to be off white and they look gray! Yuck. I'm so embarrassed when people come over. We shampoo them a lot yadda, yadda. So hard wood is the way to go right. Ok now I'm off topic. Believe me you have to just see things up close over here.

Oh I .... So hard wood is the way to go right. . consider tile.. there are some that aren't too expensive, and you don't have the whole scratching problem.

That's a good idea. We had a red striped carpet that was in the photos taken in the WP gallery. You see Leo laying on his back showing his belly and there's this nice red carpet. It covered our "gray" ucky carpet and looked great. Inexpensive too. Then because it was wool it had little itchy particles that seemed to go everywhere including up your nose. Now we know the reason it was cheap. Bye, bye carpet. Now back to the ucky gray. Looked nice in the gallery though. Ok VERY off topic but fun. I love this forum. Even when folks have disagreed on something it's a learning experience and it doesn't turn into a blood bath!

No bloodbaths allowed!!! That's the rules I have carpeting in my apartment and the color is yucky BUT it hides dirt and dog hair REALLY well. Sort of like a mix of browns and tans/creams. Val...I'm jealous of your house - I LOVE antiques and I've always said I want an old Victorian or Colonial to fix up. Yes, off topic, too. Guilty!

Oooo yeah, a colonial fixer upper. YES. I love it.
OK back to dogs. Leo and I are off to see patients. There back on subject now.
(Love talkin' about the house stuff too though)
