We had a stray PB come to our home this 4th of July. We named her Liberty! She was scared, very skinny, and timid. We fed her and actually stayed up with her until 3 in the morning. She just kept her head in my lap and slept. She has been with us ever since. We have signs out (just mentioning a gray dog, nothing else), but I don't know if anyone will claim her or not. I have four cats and can't bring her in the house, although she tries every chance she gets. I made a bed outside for her under an old standing saw bench. This is in the breezeway under our house. I put a blanket over the top for a make-shift "tent" idea. She did stay in it all night. I get up at 5 a.m. to make sure she doesn't follow my son or husband when they leave for work b/c she did follow us as we left for church Sunday. She was home when we returned.
We live in a rural county and our property butts up to the state forest. Our yard is too large to fence. We have neighbors with dogs and outdoor cats. We have wildlife that ventures into our yard from time to time. Wild coyotes live in the woods, I hear them, but have never seen them.
I work at home and am home except for running errands for work or home, but I can't spend every waking moment with her. How much attention does she need? She looks so sad and barks every time I go into the house and leave her outside. She must have been an outside dog before b/c she was covered in fleas and ticks, no collar, and obviously able to run away.
Questions...
1. What kind of collar should I get her?
2. Should I build her a dog house or crate her at night?
3. Should I fence in a portion of the yard?
4. How much should I feed her? (I have been feeding her a scoop of dry food mixed with half a large can, plus table scraps.)
5. Can I bathe her and how often should this be done? What is the best product to use?
6. What is the best flea/tick product? I heard Revolution.
Sorry for rambling, but I really could use some advice, any and all will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
