No biggie, we laughed about it later.
FWIW, do not skimp on the photographer/videographer. Give yourself enough time to check out multiple sources.
I was asked by my sister-in-law to video her sister's wedding years ago, they were trying to save money. I refused, adamantly. I had no experience with that. They got a friend to do it, and to this day regret that decision. I saw a portion of that video, and they should regret it. Definitely get a pro, and see a sample of his work. And if he gives you names of clients, call them for references. You will regret NOT doing that.

I used to be a catering sales manager years ago. I would always suggest to my brides on a budget to look at their local college if they have a photography class. Post up a notice in the department for any student that would be interested in doing it for whatever your budget is. They can bring samples of their work for you to look over. If you do go that route, make sure to have a definate "must have" list of pictures you want (ie: you getting dressed, you and dad, grandparents... ect) They can use your pictures for their portfolio. And yes... average for pictures run about 1k to start. Also, be sure that you hash out exactly how many pictures you want and in what type of book (ex: 40 pics in book). Also ask them for a disk with all the pictures on it... you don't need to pay for EVERY picture getting printed. Good luck and congrats!

Those prices are pretty standard. You'll find a bunch on craigslist that will do it for $300, but you get what you pay for. It's not just about talent, especially for weddings; and you don't get a do-over. You want a professional that specializes in weddings, not just a 'photographer' that takes pretty pictures. Congrats, and good luck!
