"The term “pit bull” does not refer to a specific breed of dog. It’s a generic term applied to American pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers, and hundreds of mixes containing elements of these breeds. DNA analysis shows that most “pitbulls” are predominantly made up of other breeds – from Lab to poodle. The term “pit bull” designates an appearance, not a breed"
Off their "Pit Bull Fact Sheet". Blergh. That's all I need to read.

I like a lot of the stuff coming off the StubbyDog site, but there is a reason (actually several...) I resigned from the original group of people involved with this project.

I like them on Facebook and I do enjoy a lot of the posts with them, but I agree with both Mary and Karla.

A "Stubby Dog" is nothing. Why couldn't they call it the Pit Bull Project? ??? Rebranding schmebranding.

A "Stubby Dog" is nothing. Why couldn't they call it the Pit Bull Project? ??? Rebranding schmebranding. Ah, but see, there's no such breed as a Pit Bull. They'd have to call it the Pit Bull Type Dog Project... And they really can't be too Pit Bull-focused if the breed of their namesake dog is highly debated in the first place...

Yet in full "pit bull type dog people" fashion, SO much of the info they present and the dogs they showcase ARE indeed APBTs or shelter dogs best ID'd as Pit Bulls (APBTs). EDIT TO ADD: If "pit bulls" are anything anyone says they are, where is the info on Dogos, Corsos, Lab mixes, and so on and so forth? NO, pretty much any specific info they use to describe these "non-breed" Pit Bull when it suits their purposes is APBT-specific. And the circuclar arguing continues. ;D

That's the part that drives me the most crazy!! "There is no such breed as a Pit Bull, but here are some Breed specific traits about Pit Bulls..." Here was my completely ignored response to that on the Animal Farm Foundation Facebook page:
You can't spout breed specific traits and facts and then say that a "pit bull" isn't even a breed. You can't say "pit bulls are great with children" or "pit bulls make terrible guard dogs because they love people so much," because while that is true of Pit Bulls it may not be true of some of the breeds or mixes that are being called "pit bulls." If "pit bull" isn't a breed then how can you say that they have breed specific traits? If there is "no such thing as a pit bull," then how can every dog that has been called a "pit bull" have the same or similar behavioral characteristics or temperaments? They CAN'T!!

No, it was a few months ago, when they first changed their mission statement.
I found it, it was April 27th on this post: We don't see the merit of arguing about the definition of a "pit bull." Communities will decide what a "pit bull" is, and it's our job to make sure those dogs/owners are not discriminated against. Aurora, CO, defines a "pit bull" as any one of 10 "pit bull breeds." Although they reduced their ban from 10 to 3 "pit bull breeds" (or mixes), none of the dogs/owners deserved to be treated unfairly.

and notice the total silence of all these people on the recent fatalities...... Somehow that "every dog is an individual" message gets suppressed. Because under their rules, any dog that someone says is a "pit bull" IS a pit bull. Including the "whatevers" that maim/kill...
