So the lady who brought the kitten came over to check up on her. Yup she was eating fine and the litter box looked normal. The kitten was staying in a closed bedroom away from the other cats and dog as she was getting used to the place. Then Sybil sees the communal cat dish in t he kitchen. Large half bowl of dry food that we leave out so the cats can take turns eating. Sybil goes into a lecture about why Meow Mix is junk food and we should only feed the cats this grain-free, gluten-free stuff she uses. Then she asks about the two cats outside. I looked out the window she was frozen at and there was Rainbow from down the street and a persian tabbie mix I've seen on another neighbors steps every night. I said those aren't our cats and at first you could tell she didn't believe me. Then she went into another lecture about how they should be trapped because, because, because... Then Sybil cooks up this story how she just remembered the kitten needs some more tests she forgot about and...well I knew where that was going. So like hubby said later, let her keep it...&%#&...I could adopt a human kid with less grief, jeez. We will find a ginger cat yet. Just a warm happy boy, an adult is fine, who is social and litter trained, know there's alot of guys out there that need a home.

Are your cats strictly indoor cats?
Have you visited any shelters? My friend adopted THE BEST orange tabby from Liberty Humane.
Not be be judgemental, and I don't know what the contract was like regarding this placement (was it a trial period? did you sign any paperwork?) but Meow Mix is really not a good food.....some rescues are real picky about the type of food that's going to be fed.

Sorry it did not work out but I am sure you will be able to find the right cat! Def. check out the shelters!
Also Mary touched on it but having cats that are not striclty indoor will certainly not be a popular thing with most rescues as I am sure you can understand.

They are strictly indoor, we've got a big enclosed front porch, enclosed back porch...the neighborhood is full of strays, raccoons and possums the size of elephants. I agree it's not safe outside. But it was just the attitude. Like if you were trying to place a homeless human child and because the potential adoptive family didn't eat purely organic and some of the neighborhood kids looked rough you wouldn't make the placement. I dunno...guess it make's sense to somebody

^ I feel ya, I do. You are trying to do the right thing and adopt. I suggest a shelter because sometimes (a lot of times) they are just easier.........

That is a bit crazy that they took the cat back from you! You can't control your neighbors' cats! What does she expect you to do about that? You would think that they would just tell you about better foods and recommend that you change over! Was it in the agreement that you had to feed grain free? It sounds a bit crazy to me! I would just get a kitty from a shelter or craigslist. We found Ziggy and her sister for free on Craigslist and they are both great cats!

There's a ginger running around my neighborhood. I think one of the neighbors cats had kittens, then once they get "too big" she puts them outside. The shelter in Grand Island only requires the new owner to show proof of a rabies vaccine. So there has to be one out that way that will let you have a kitteh!

seriously, they took the kitten back because you feed meow mix?? are you kidding me? just because you cant feed what they feed should not constitute them taking the kitten back, that is just insane. i hope you didnt pay an adoption fee for the kitten, and if you did you better get it back.
its one thing to discuss better nutrition, its another to take an animal back because the home doesnt feed what the rescue feeds.. that is just bullshit to me and really sucks..

Did she give you any other information why she was taking the cat back other than that it needed shots?! Did she tell you she was taking the cat back and that was final?

I dunno...guess it make's sense to somebody Pretty good comparison. I mean sure Meow Mix isn't a top of the line food, but that's your choice, not theirs. Also, why would she think you have 2 cats outside when the rest were inside? At least you are willing to take in a cat and give it a good home. Everyone here is right about the shelter or craiglist thing. Craigslist makes me mental reading the postings, but it is the easiest way to get a pet.

Yeah on Friday we'll go back where we got Ophie. You got proof you own the house and the adoption fee n' its simply "Which one you want?". Should have done that in the first place...silly me

PS Anyone want half a bag of Nature's Variety?...she had given it to me when she came over the first time. Just out of curiosity I put some down for the general population. Chii and Stumpy looked at me in the eyes like WHAT IS THIS %@? Suprised Ophie wouldn't even eat it. Might be right healthy but anyway...

Mary, didn't you say you used to work with them? Another name-Charlotte Mross? I'm too darn polite dealing with people. If you know Charlotte or anybody involved can you help me appeal? Just basically we didn't know the kitten had health problems, they don't feel we had an ideal/holistic/dogfree enviroment-no hard feelings and give us back our money please. Gawd, can you imagine a scam where they have the same few animals and rotate them and take them back, keep the adoption fee each time...not that I'm suggesting that's whats going on but...just a unfortunate, dumb situation

I wrote that post 10/5 so that was probably when I talked to them (Rosa, who I called Sybil at the beginning). I dunno, how long would you give them and who would I talk to? I'm not one to judge but she just seemed really out there, so don't think talking to Rosa is gonna do much.

I would call them tomorrow and send an email asking them when they mailed you a check as you have yet to receive it. It is good to have a written papertrail.

Yes, I know Charlotte.
I agree, call them and email, ask about when you can expect a check. You paid the initial fee in cash, right?
