The guys on the board can just skip this because you just wouldn't have a clue...But does anyone else have or know well an exceptional child in the preteen or teen years??? I just feel I dunno, suppose I gotta find a support group in town. There are groups online but so far what I've found either have kids who are way young or profoundly more special than Emmy.
She'll be eleven in March. Had a parent conference the other day and one of the questions in passing was does she have her period yet? No but it's coming...We were in Target the other day trying on what we called training bras back in the day. Guess we were training them to stand up and perk I dunno...but anyway. On the outside she's growing, maturing. Was always off the height charts-got that from my brother, I'm barely 5'4, he's 6'4.
She wears small adult sizes now.
But then I sat in her room last night noticing the bookshelves. The books have never really changed. The baby board books are gone and she can read a story to me. But all picture books, should be just grateful she can read so well, and dress and feed herself. But ya know what I'm saying? One of her favorite shows is "WuwuwuWubzy" oh and Dora of course.
And she's going to have her first period...one more confusing thing she won't understand that I have to help her with. Can't even begin to explain why to her-she has next to no abstract reasoning. I'm afraid, in a few years she'll have boobies and look like a teen and I'll have to protect her like I didn't have to protect the others...my oldest daughter in particular used to kick butt if guys weren't respectful. Sometimes you just get yourself in a mindset of it almost seems surreal, like hey this isn't the way I planned life its not fair...then you just learn to roll with it and you learn right along with your special kid. Thank you for letting me share...woooof
