We went to Evergreen today. Still as dismal as it was when we adopted Ophie. Whole buncha Pookins I could have taken home...canine supermax. But there is a cat and it was love at first sight. Then they opened the room for me and I walked in. Had one guy that looked like Delilah circling my legs. But the one I found, think he was purring "Where have you been all my life?". I put him over my shoulder and he purred and rubbed into my glasses, rubbed into my hair, just a big ol' purrbox. It's more like he picked ME. He is definitely the one!!!! He's gotta get himself clipped so it might be a few days, but going to visit him again and bring the proof for the house and all. And he will be Levon

Congrats - It is always neat when an animal recognizes its special person.

I personally recommend Evergreen to people who are really experienced with whatever kind of critter they're looking for. There are so many terrific animals in city shelters...But you need to go with the right mindset. You have to stay totally focused on the one or two creatures that work for you. Bring a pen and scrap paper to write the collar number. Everything depends on that collar number so write it on each paper you sign, your check, everywhere. The handlers are nice n' polite but don't expect any information about any animal because they probably don't know or have any. If you stop to think while you're in there that most of these faces are not on Petfinder because they'll be destroyed in another week or so...good to bring a friend, tissues, and at least an hour or two to browse and process the paperwork.

I got the paperwork done. They were checking in a group of pitty's and a boxer, such pretty guys. This poor cat didn't even get a name. You wonder how they pick who gets a profile and who's just not gonna be there too long. There's these incredible guys in cages by the reception area. Some of the biggest butt cats I've seen for awhile-few must be topping 20lbs if not more. Wouldn't have to worry about Stumpy beating on them, they would eat her So far so good and I can even bring him home on the bus if need be. I went through this with Ophie too. Nothing can be easy sometimes. A few years ago I thought in ten years we'll get a dog. then I found out about a local group when we moved back here. I brought home a houndy kind of dog. Hubby went ballistic so I took it back. Then of course being Sicilian he told me later in the day "Hey, if you want the dog ,keep the dog...". They had given it to another family already so against my better judgement they hooked me up with a black lab, obviously lactating and missing puppies...not a good match. She was in the house one hour and got out the front door. Since then we got three locks on that door. The rescue went nuts, I looked for her everywhere and that led us to Evergreen looking for her. That's where I found Ophie. They found the lab alive and well a week later in Maplewood Village. Things happen for a reason
