Last night, towards the end of what was an otherwise lovely evening walk with Luca, my AmStaff, a neighbor's dog apparently jumped her scrawny fence and came after Luca. For those who don't know, Luca is extremely dog aggressive. We keep to ourselves and don't bother anyone; but contact with other dogs is a no-no. Unfortunately, other people don't always do right by their dogs and do not keep them properly contained. This dog - a Rottweiler-ish female - run at Luca very defensively. I think it was a miracle that I managed to avoid a fight. I screamed at, kicked at, swung a leash at the dog and finally managed to move far enough away that she gave up and headed back towards her yard. To say I was upset is an understatement. I went back home, put Luca inside, and then had a word with the very UNapologetic owner. (The dog was still running around loose when I showed up, unable to get back into her yard.) I can't stress enough the importance of keeping your dog under control at ALL TIMES. The lack of proper handling, containment and training I encounter is astounding. My dogs have actually been attacked numerous times throughout the years, by loose dogs or blatantly off leash dogs. I'm pissed at the irresponsibility I encounter on a regular basis. It's sickening. Stiffer laws really need to be put into effect. If someone can present a good dog ownership law with some teeth, I'll get behind it 100%.

I had a similar experience not too long ago. There is a neighbor several blocks away who has some kind of poodle-y or bichon dog and has no fence. I was about a block away when someone else happened to be walking their GSD by the property and the little dog started attacking the GSD. The older man who owned the little dog didn't really do anything to get his dog back, and I was just waiting for the GSD to take a bite...
I was walking my dog-aggressive shar pei/pit bull mix Aiden at the time. I can't imagine what would have happened if the dog came after us. My boyfriend has walked Aiden and had that dog run up to him without a major incident, but it scares me out of my mind.
Needless to say I got the address and called animal control the next day to file a report.

In the town I live in, some people let there dogs out to roam. One time I was in my own yard playing fetch with my 2 dogs and a roaming dog came up and my oldest Pit Bull snapped at it, its owner seen this and called the cops to say a vicious Pit Bull was killing there dog. I told the police the dog was in MY yard and my dog did not even hurt it. People are ignorant. Also why have a dog if it is going to spend its life on a chain or in a cage and never get any attention!

I know how you feel. I had to completely stop walking on one part of our regular walk, because the lady has five dogs that just run loose. The smallest is a little terrier, and it's the bravest and comes viciously at me. My dogs are pretty dog aggressive, but that gets them even more pissed, so, I had to just stop going that way.
Another neighbor has a JRT that just runs loose, and I thankfully avoided an incident with him as well.
Makes me mad. I try to keep my dogs properly contained, and only walk them on a leash. Drives me insane.
