My friend wants me to help her with her 2 1/2 year old Cockapoo. He has been nipping at people when they come to her house. He also barks non-stop. He gets into the trash when they are not there and bent the wires on a wire crate to get loose. They dont know what to do and are asking me for advice! Not real sure what to tell them! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! He gets jogged/walked daily for about 20-30 minutes. They are currently using a Shock collar and it isnt helping. She said she also swats him on the nose with a newspaper but it doesnt seem to help! Im going there Saturday to work with the dog. Im thinking I will use some techniques from the Animal Planet show It's Me or The Dog. Wondering what you all think of that. Thanks!

You know, Victoria is coming to the states to do some shows. Maybe they should go onto animal planet's website and apply? We just watched an episode today with a terrier that just launched itself at people when they came in the door. But they worked with him to get him to sit and stay for a reward of some chicken.

he needs NILIF, a ton more exercise, and try a vari kennel instead of a wire one, or zip tie all 4 corners of the wire crate so he cant escape

Yea thats what I told her too. She said he is very energetic so that is what I recommended. I told her she should walk him 3 times! Thank you. I go to her house towmarrow to try to help with the problems at the door.

he should get 3 walks of at least an hour and a half each time, plus get him a flirt pole from petco, and work on obedience as well

I went there and it was so easy. He listens so well. Her son is a runner for track and takes morning runs and he promised he would now take Rudy (the dog) with. Plus, Christie walks in the evenings and she is going to take him with. Her son is also in baseball and is a pitcher and is going to practice pitching the ball fast and having Rudy retrieve it! With the nipping I think it was just because of too much energy and excitement so they promised daily exercises will be part of there routine! Just the amount of exercise he got that one day I was there made him calm down. He is a very good dog as long as they stay consistent! For the getting out of the crate thing, they are going to buy a stronger, plastic crate and try that. And I told them the kitchen should be off limits because he tries to climb on counters. So, Rudy isnt the chaos they think he is, he just wants some exercise! Thanks for the comments tracilg and maryellen.
