Two questions-The first is the rose plant, even if it's freakishly warm out there right now there could be a blizzard next...do I pile mulch around it? Cover it? Mulch the bottom and cover it? If you cover it, how do you cover it? The second is the geranium plant-it was this little bitty Shop Rite special. Now it's a leafy four feet tall and beautiful. Can I bring it inside for the winter? Seems a shame to leave it outside if it turns nasty when it's grown so well.

I really really wish that I knew more about gardening. I need to take a class or something.

I really really wish that I knew more about gardening. I need to take a class or something. My father was an avid and masterful gardener and I learned barely anything from him. A lot of that is on me, of course. But some of it has to do with why my dad was so engrossed in his garden. He worked as a school principle (here's a link to a site about his old school, which was named after him after he retired: springfield-pa.patch.com/listings/et-richardson-middle-school) and dealt with kids and people in general all day and needed some "alone time". The garden worked really well for him and produced an amazing amount of fruits, veggies and flowers.

^ Yeah, interestingly enough my dad is an awesome gardener too. He was born into a farming family, but left the farm to go to medical school. But he has always loved gardening. Unfortunately, I learned absolutely nothing from him. Which is totally my own fault, lol!

There are premade styrofoam forms to cover roses as well.
