I'm finishing my packing and getting ready for tomorrow's journey with Barley out to Colorado. I have been overwhelmed with the support and love that we've received from our friends and family, including my RPBF friends. I've been that not one person - not at work, not our family, not our friends - has said anything like "i can't believe you're doing all this for a dog." People have even tried to give us donations to help pay for Barley's treatments - we said no, of course, but the offers made me cry. Even my parents, who have never really understood the lengths I'll go to for my dogs, have been supportive. My dad sent me some articles from his medical journals about supplements that might help Barley and we had a long discussion about nutrition. My good friend is even taking time off from work to make the trip with me, to help with the driving and to be there for me if the worst happens. So, I just want to send this message out to the universe.... I'm still angry and sad that Barley has this stupid rare brain tumor, but I am SO GRATEFUL for the love and support that we have been lucky enough to receive. I'm overwhelmed by it. And Mary and Michele... thank you for RPBF and for making sure that we all have such an honest, positive, supportive, respectful place to learn and share. You've provided all of us with an incredible resource that has a bigger impact than I think you may realize.

one of the things that's special about Mary's place is that no one judges someone else's choices. We've all been in our own difficult spot and know how difficult decisions can be.
So many dog forums have the "omg, if you didn't do "x", you are a horrible person" implicit (sometimes explicit) message.. .. whether you do everything that's possible for your dog, or nothing, or in between. Whether you decide you can work with a dog with problem "x", or decide you can't.
This is our safe place

just to let everyone know that S arrived safely, braving some really horrible driving weather. We're all settling into the logistics of multiple dogs.

^ Thanks for the update, Emily. It's so great that you were able to refer Suzi to the hospital and then have her stay with you. Suzi, thank you for your post; it's so wonderful to know that this forum has such a positive impact on its members. This was my vision for this place and Michele and I work really hard to make sure RPBF lives up to the vision.

Thank you all. Emily is so awesome and generous, Lulu is such a pretty pretty girl, and Mr. Peabody is indescribable! His huge head and tiny butt make me squee! I took some video of him running around like a maniac last night, but it will be a while until I can try to post it.
We had our initial consult this morning, and we're still in a holding pattern. So far the CSU staff have been great. The bad news is that Barley may have a second tumor on his spine. We're waiting for more tests and more info from the neurologist. So it's still wait and see. I'm glad my friend Nina is with me because I'm kind of a wreck. I will update later if I can.

Glad that you had a good time with Emily. I am jealous that you got to meet LuLu and Mr. P! I'll be looking forward to the video!
I'm so sorry to read that it looks like there may be an other tumor. Whatever happens, at least you can take comfort in the fact that you are doing everything you can for Barley. You are already doing so much more than many pet owners would! You are both in my thoughts!

No other tumors. He's scheduled for the CT and mapping tomorrow. I'm taking this step by step, but at least we're past this first major scare.
