A while ago I wrote saying that Ninja and Sushi both had infected bites. Of course in a perfect world I should have been on the way to the vet immediately. But if anyone knows the taxes for Maplewood x maybe $250 to treat both cats, plus stitches and drain placement that tend to get gnawed out-yes it's as nasty as it sounds...I made the decision to treat them on my own. I'm not recommending it for a minute, if things had gotten worse I certainly would have found a way to get them to the vet. Infections are serious and can easily kill a cat or dog if they progress. But just for general knowledge...with Sushi I had to trim the fur down below his ear and at his neckline being careful not to cut healthy skin. A vet would shave the area around the wound. Then I flushed the whole thing with hydrogen peroxide. He was very calm through all this, almost like he knew I was trying to make him feel better. Then I dabbed antibiotic cream on the open parts. I followed this with compresses of hydrogen peroxide several times a day for a week. I did the same procedure with Ninja's leg...and whew...happy to say 2 weeks later both cats are almost perfectly healed with fur growing in already. Gotta keep them from bickering now

Years ago my sister had taken in a stray cat with an injured leg. At the time she was so broke, she was lucky to get her rent paid every month and couldn't afford a vet. I was in a slightly better place, and paid to have the cat taken in and check out. It was a flesh wound, serious, but not lief threatening with antibiotics etc. That crazy cat kept tearing up his bandage and getting the wound dirty. It was a daily thing to reclean and bandage! My sister finished what the vet would have finished by removing the dead flesh etc. It was gross, but eventually the cat healed up.
