With these winter months Bolas skin has gotten very itchy and flaky.
I was wondering what I could do/give him for his skin/coat during these dry months to help soothe him.

I just give fish oil, and for bathes I use an oatmeal shampoo. Rhett would get patches, and I'd put vitamin e oil on them, or some of my cetaphyl (sp) lotion.

I fully endorse the fish oil and oatmeal shampoo ideas! Just don't overdo shampooing, as that can strip the very oils you want on the skin and in the coat.

My guys are lucky to see the inside of a tub ever couple of months. Yeah, that's cool. I recall someone on some Pit Bull email list complaining that their dog's coat looked dull and dry "despite" weekly baths. Hellooooo!!!!

I'd limit baths unless he stinks. Soap will never add moisture; it will only determine how much oil is stripped away.
Work on him from the inside. Fish oil, even olive oil, over his food should help. Just be careful to not overdo it so he doesn't get any runs!

When Winnie was really itchy w/ his allergies, my vet said to try an aveno oatmeal bath. That could be an option too I guess. Not sure how that would mix w/ the fur. I never tried it.

Oatmeal is soothing to the skin. It can help calm itchies and is great for sensitive skin. Its not going to do anything for moisture either way, though.

Bola already has oatmeal shampoo and gets bathed as rarely as possible. And by fish oil...does that mean like the pill capsules?! If so, what mg do you guys recommend?

The pill capsules are the most common form. You can get bottles of salmon oil in pet stores for a whole lot more money. Anyway, you can either poke a hole in the capsule and squeeze it over their food. Dogs tend to LOVE the rancid fish smell!!! I usually put the whole capsule in cream cheese and let them gulp the whole things down. Dogs may love the smell, but I don't!!! ;D I put my latest acquisition Angel on fish oil while she was still at the shelter when her sleek black coat turned dry, kinda disheveled and a sort of charcoal gray instead of black because of all the whitish microflakes in it. I gave it to her almost every day that I was in. Call it 3-4 times per week till she showed improvement. Now she's looking great and I'll probably give it to her once a week through the winter months and then discontinue unless and until there is a problem again.

John, you're right, the stinkier the better!
I forgot that I have Yummy Chummies Wild Alaska Salmon oil here that I got free with my Jeffers order one time. It smells to high heaven, yet the dogs looooove it. One pump per dog, and they shine.

What are you feeding?
You could also try coconut oil - it's wonderful for them. You can put a chunk on your hand and it melts a bit in your hand, then they lick it off and you can rub the rest on their coat. Smells great and so nourishing, both inside and out.

I tried this once, Chubby would not stop licking himself where I put the coconut oil, "OMG, I taste delicious!!!"

It's cute till he gnaws off a leg! Then he'll need a Chubby sized wheelchair! I tried this once, Chubby would not stop licking himself where I put the coconut oil, "OMG, I taste delicious!!!"

The vet recently prescribed fish oil for Dugan also. He gets dry skin this time of year. I wrap the fish oil in a little chunk of bread and it goes down pretty well.

I put peanut butter on my fish oil pills. Beastley loves it. He thinks it is his special treat. I also use oatmeal shampoo when bathing.
