Tis the season kids...from the other side of the store counter PLEASE, PLEASE heed this shopping advice now and after the holidays...
1. Do not take standing in line as a personal affront, there might only be minimal staffing and that might be the only capable cashier in the store. This is not the cashiers fault, find yourself a manager during 9-5 if you feel the need to vent.
2. When you get through the line please present coupons, rain checks, discount cards and any other savings first. This helps everyone involved. After the payment process begins in the register we can't add the coupon you just remembered.
3. If you are using a debit card or gift card, be aware even roughly how much you have. The cashier has no control over " Do Not Accept" on the register screen. Heaping abuse on the clerk isn't putting funds in the account.
4. When you are at the register do not use cell phones or electronic gadgets unless you have three items and exact change. Using a blue tooth device is irritating and makes you appear to be in need of medication. Please understand many clerks will cease conversation when handling money, do not take this personally, just shut up.
5. Calling a store to request a certain item is fine, calling repeatedly to complain why you're being put on hold is not.
6. If an item does not have a scan code or rings up wrong it is not the cashiers fault. Try to be helpful and have a scan code or sale price available when you begin the transaction. Some salespeople can correct such problems on their own. In other stores only a manager can...have patience and understanding.
7. Please to remember your manners when asking favors of sales help. In some businesses lowly cashiers have manager codes. We can give you discounts, we can put things aside for you, we can find things hidden in the depths of the stockroom from hell. We can also hang up on you, make you pay full price, and lose your order completely.
8. Retail is a difficult souless job, it can also be a rewarding way of paying the bills and getting employee discounts until a "real" job comes through one day. Happy shopping kids and try to look at that person behind the counter in a more personal way.
