Ya know that awful sound when someone has a dog on a choker and its pulling with all its might...Then the dog stops and begins sucking in air hard and snorting??? Bola has been doing this a lot lately (We do not use a choker on him). He can just be laying on the floor sleeping, then he will stand up and begin snorting and sucking in air like that. He especially does it when he eats, drinks, and on walks (We used to use a martingale collar on him but I switched him to a regular collar due to this). Someone at my work said that their Lab does the same thing and its something with their throat collapsing and when they make that sound, they are 're-inflating' it? Had never heard of such a thing. Anyone dealt with this? Should I be taking him to the vet?

Could be a collapsed trachea, which is serious but manageable, or it could be a reverse sneeze, which is annoying but not serious.

reverse sneezing perhaps. Is a tad more alarming since he is doing it esp. when he eats, drinks or exerts himself.

Maxine did that alot when we first brought her home.
She was still recovering from Kennel Cough though, and had come in with trachea damage from previous owner. Now it's pretty much stopped.
Friend's Setter, Molly does it alot as well, they took her to the vet and he said that she had asthma.

Ferdie did that as long as we had her, sounded almost like a cat hacking a hairball sometimes but the vet checked her out-even as she was doing it-and said it was just reverse sneezing and not a big deal

reverse sneezing is alarming, but i've gotten used to it. it seems to happen at random with both eko and poca.

I made an appointment for him to be seen. Im sure it is probably just an inverted sneeze (Never heard of this before!). But like michele said, he does this almost every time he eats or drinks and does it extra when we exercise so I just want to be safe.
I think Im also going to look into a harness for him...He is quite the puller on walks and I cant imagine that tug on his neck does him any justice.
