This is really cool. It's like Emma Parson's Look At That game but with a twist. I like how this is not a cued behavior, this is more in line with what I do vs traditional LAT. This is a GREAT exercise for Pit Bulls who get themselves all worked up by staring and then having trouble disengaging. Here is the video to go along with it. This is truly nightmarish. But I can't help but wonder if she is being used for publicity by the org? IS that unfair to say? I just think that euthanasia might be more fair, considering all the surgery this dog will need to go through and health issues that they probably don't even realize exist yet. She does seem like the sweetest little angel. This is the org that has her: www.passion4pits.com/

Honestly given your current residents, a fully matured male 3+ years who has been properly tested around kids, dogs, and cats would be your safest bet. Some people make the mistake of thinking a puppy "raised with" such-and-such will mean the animals will always get along, but this is just not true in the least. Also, a 1 year old is still essentially a baby and what you see is not necessarily what you will get in the long run.
It is very common for Pit Bulls to get along with other animals at a younger age, but then become more picky about who they want to interact with as they get older. Also, many Pit Bulls will get along very well with other family animals 99+% of the time, but they can trigger very easily and a fight could start, so for that reason, careful management/supervision of Pit Bulls around other animals is very important. Learning signals that mean a dog is getting stressed (which could lead to fight behavior) is important as well.
I tell you all this not to scare you away from the breed, but it is my goal to make sure people are prepared. For Pit Bull owners, this stuff needs to be "just the way it is" and sort of become a way of life with the breed. For some people, dog-directed/animal-directed aggression is just not something that they want to deal with on a day to day basis, so this breed isn't for them.
It's all about what you want, what your family dynamic is, and what your ultimate goals for your animals are.
Hope that helps?

Hi Kim, I'm so sorry to hear about your Bulldog being sick. I understand your worry/pain for sure. Losing a heart-dog is so difficult.
You are doing the right thing by researching the breed and taking things slowly. Too many people fall in love, get a Pit Bull immediately then realize they made a bad decision. Hope we can help you with any specific questions you may have.
Welcome!

So neglectful of this forum, but nothing new dogw-wise on the personal, organizational, or professional fronts. Very sad and just taking one day at a time. Miss everyone here and the dogs. Mara says hi, too.

Ellie is really smart and has the most gorgeous coat and bright eyes. I guess they are like a golden brown. She's def a handful because of those health issues. Makes me insanely angry, I swear that 99.999999% of breeders should just be banned from ever having a litter. Even so called reputable and responsible ones will turn around and f*ck you over. It's insane. At this point there is only one breeder I would truly trust because of my personal experience with her (Luca's breeder, who just offered me a Luca cousin for free, but we won't talk about that since I am barred from getting any dogs ). Even a "good reputation" among people in the know doesn't mean anything at the end of the day.

Wow Dave, really sorry you are going through this. Having just lost my place and being unable to have any dogs at all, let alone Pit Bulls, I can certainly relate and know your fear. I really hope something works out, I think it will. I would hope your sister will work with you and understand that getting rid of your dogs isn't even something that would be considered possible.
I'm moving this to the Issues board because of the insurance stuff, might be helpful to others.
