I have never seen any evidence to support the conclusion that Pit Bulls have some super-power bite force. From what I have read, they actually fall behind a few breeds and aren't capable of anything worth mentioning at all...As far as bite strength goes.
How do people survive? With brains so small....

I think that MythBusters should do this. Absolutely!!!!! I agree with everybody that it's not the breed, it's the size of the dog, size of the jaws and the size of the toofins, AND the motive for the bite. Dogs, even one angry beyond reason have more brain activity going on than say a shark. I believe they can reason between I'm going to scare you/I'm going to hurt you/You're going to die-and choose their bites accordingly. That would be a great MythBusters show but it would scare some people witless...

A BIG bruise, but just a bruise. On the other hand, I had a super scared Sharpei abandoned at the shelter I used to manage slam down on me so hard that even though I was wearing super heavy winter gloves (basically like hunters' gloves) for protection and he therefore didn't break skin, I felt like I had just slammed my hand in a car door and I had to walk round and round the parking lot several minutes till I could return to my senses.

^ Not the first time I've heard a story like that about a Shar Pei bite....... Yeah, and this guy wasn't undersized, but he wasn't oversized either. But wow, what bite force. And of course, as we've been discussing, a large part of it is that in his stress and fear he meant to do damage and would have big time if not for the extra thick padded gloves.
