After watching Inara's youtube of her nosework i was motivated to do it with Rocky. Last night my son caught me watching videos and said lets teach Rocky a new trick. I suggested that we play the find it game which Rocky loves but I never did It like Liz did with Inara. either we hide or we hide a toy. Which is fun but he does not use his nose as much as our smells are all over the house. So I scented a piece of cloth with Cinnamon and here is what happened. This is only one of several successful finds. If you listen carefully you can hear Rocky huffing as he is very excited about this. I did realize later that Liz had her cloth in a plastic bag. Which I guess is so the smell does not get all over your hands etc. So I washed and put another spice scent on it and placed in bag. That video will be uploaded later as I am having issues with my computer and uploads are too slow. Oh and ignore the dark I did realize it and turned a light on so you can actually see him find it. For a little there is darkness but just sit tight.

Here is second video, better lighting and now have cloth in a plastic bag. Please ignore my 16 soon to be 17 yr olds messy room. I am embarrassed at what gets picked up through a cam.

yay Rocky! Ellie has a nose, she can detect smells that the other dogs ignore. I should do structured stuff with her.

Well I might be taking a nosework class. Found classes but Im going to have to travel an hour and a half. I have been told that most students do travel quite far for these types of classes. Anyway I am waiting as the instructor needs 3 people to do a class and she is trying to accommodate my drive by making a Fri afternoon class increasing it to 1 1/2 hours and cutting it to 4 weeks instead of 6. Plus I get a discount for a referral from my dads friend who took a class. I am hoping she will let Rocky skip the intro since he already knows what to do. I sent her videos and asked if that was possible. So we shall see.

Well I had read about most of it a while ago it is a upcoming sport from what I understand. But I watched one of our other members videos since she told us to go ahead and check out all of Inara's video's. Since I had already had Rocky searching for toys before and I once tried a little of what I read, I was motivated to try it after watching Inara But here is more about it from The Bark magazine Teacher I might take class with is certified with www.funnosework.com/I mostly watched youtube videos like these.

Rocky's doing great! He's very methodical. :-)
I was fortunate that my nosework class was held at my normal training center. And I found out that regional organization we compete in Rally through is thinking about starting nosework competitions. That would be great!

Wish I lived close to a training center. Going to check one out this week or next week but as far as I know she does not do nosework but I see she has rally so maybe if I like her and her facility I can encourage her to get certified to teach. Rocky is methodical? how so? I have been told am methodical in how I clean my house.

He's not zig-zagging back and forth across the room - he picks and starts there, covering each area.
The woman who taught my nosework class isn't one of the certified ones.

I think for a nosework title it may be beneficial to go through a certified trainer as they'll know what the tests consist of. My titles (that she WILL be getting!) will be through another org so the testing will be different.

Yeah I knew about Port CHester the one up in Accord that appears on or near Roundout valley www.whitedogconsulting.net/ She is certified with NACSW she was working at Port Chester. My dad actually recommended her thinking she was still there. She is willing to open a class on Fri afternoon to accommodate me for the travel time, but needs 2 more to do the class. Port Chester will cost me the toll booth on Tapan Zee. Just got adult classes booklet over at West Milford, saw there are classes at the West Milford NJ HS also. It is just one class though for 65 dollars. with a trainer named Jennifer Basile who I have had a business card since I got Rocky so she has been training for a while but dont know anything about her. I need to ask this woman at White Dog consulting what they have to do with the ROundout Valley and Sternburg before I commit to taking classes. Thank You for the info.
