My wife and I recently rescued a pit bull/boxer mix from the Humane Society here in Utah. Her name is Mia, and she is about the sweetest dog I have ever known, and I've known some sweet ones. She is so eager to please, and very well behaved for a pup of 13 months. We had a husky/retriever mix before and she was a good dog as well. We had to put her down in July as she was experiencing kidney failure. It is very nice having Mia in our family, she has really helped fill the void left by Shandy's passing.
Mia is experiencing some anxiety issues, having come from the kennels at the Humane Society. While there she was attacked by another dog and has some wounds that are still healing. She seems to experience separation anxiety when she is left alone, although this is getting better as she has become more accustomed to being in our home. She has only been with us for a little over a week. Whenever we are home with her, she doesn't leave my wife's side. They have formed a real bond. She loves me too and sees me as the alpha male, but she is really attached to my wife and I can't blame her so am I.
Thanks to Mary for administrating this board and thanks for allowing us to join. Mia is the first pit we have ever owned so we are sure to have some questions and this seems like a great place to get very specific information about the breed we have already gained a great appreciation for. I actually never thought I would own a pit, not because I believed all the "danger dog" paranoia, but because of the general bad reputation that they have. I am glad to have the opportunity to help turn those stereotypical attitudes around by being a responsible pit bull friend. Mia is a good dog and deserves to enjoy her life as a member of our family. Hello to all and again thanks for having us.
