I have come to the realization that it is time for Inara to stop interacting with other dogs. She used to LOVE playing with giant male dogs - she would throw herself on her back, wiggle around, throw her butt in their faces, etc. Well a few weeks ago there was a huge, mellow, male Great Dane on one of our walks. Inara was totally making flirty eyes at him the entire walk, so afterwards we let them meet. She was flirty for about 3 seconds and then it's like a flip switched. It was kind of like, "hey there, baby aren't you cute and OMG I love you and OH MY GOD I'M GOING TO EAT YOU IF EVER COME NEAR ME AGAIN!" Zero to sixty. No damage, pretty sure there wasn't even any slobber on the Dane. Yesterday, there was a big, mellow, male English Mastiff on our walk. His owners know Inara's propensity towards bitchiness, but she has also always loved their English Bulldog before, so we agreed to let them meet. Once again, flirty for about 3 seconds and then she flipped out on him. Again, no damage, not even spit (thank god for incredible bite inhibition!). And she was on her flat collar with a nice loose leash each time.
So yeah, she has officially lost dog interaction privileges. Kind of bums me out as she always used to love flirting with the big dumb boys, and she was funny while she would do so - just a total hussy. And this switch kind of came about in just the past couple of months. There are a couple dogs (only 1 locally) that she used to be able to play with off-leash, but now I'm not so sure about letting her do that either.
She's becoming so much less reactive on leash that you would think she'd be less bitchy, but nope, getting moreso. Kind of disappointing. I think I'm going to start her l-theanine up again and see if that can level her out a bit again. It's like she's bi-polar - some days she's a total dream and we're a perfect team and happy, and then there are days (like yesterday) where I just want to beat her to death because she is acting so obnoxiously. Fortunately the good days majorly outweigh the bad, but man.
Anyway, just wanted to vent.
