AFF's "little red book"

this was prompted by a PM from a RPB friend, who I won't identify unless she chooses to out herself for making a really great point, which I have elaborated on:

So the definition of "pit bull" is "any dog that is discriminated against because of its appearance" (according to AFF's metaphorical little red book) and "who cares" what breed a dog is, as their chief public spokesperson wrote on an advocate's link to a cute ad featuring an SBT... if it looks a certain way, it might be banned and that's what we care about.

Because "some" people think a "bully breed" can include Akita's Rottweilers, GSDs and a whole host of dogs with not one iota of "bully" (e.g. bulldog) in it, then there is no definition and we should not try to define it. There is no such breed as a "pit bull". And all you people with APBTs/ASTs/SBTs: just STFU --- you have nothing to contribute

If PETA or a breed ban proponent quotes some advice given by established pit bull advocate (that is, someone who's been doing rescue/advocacy for more than 5 years); advice removed from its context, which concerns some breed-specific characteristics, then it's the fault of the advocate if BSL passes and if dogs get killed in shelters

Now riddle me this: since breed ban-ners include a variety of named breeds and describe dogs of a certain appearance (and shelters kill dogs using these same definitions)...... how are breed ban-ners and shelter killers NOT justified and enabled by AFF's insistence that "any dog can be a pit bull". Why SHOULDNT they quote AFF literature and public statements? Why shouldn't Colleen Lynn, Merrit Clifton and the other haters gleefully point to the "any dog can be a pit bull" language AFF promotes as justifying their own statistics and hatred?

Because now all those dogs that bit someone... that were identified in the press as "pit bulls"? (even if photos of the dogs show something else). ALL PIT BULLS. Every dog that has ever been named as a pit bull... now it IS a pit bull.

Wow their original mission has evolved into or been taken out of context along the way. What the heck happened and about when? Each day i feel more and more compelled to take a drive out there and see the program for myself.

Neither do they. Right now, they are oblivious to the fact that they are painting themselves into an untenable corner. But it'll dawn on them eventually, even if they don't admit. Timeframes are hard to predict. The Soviet system was untenable, but NO ONE expected it to implode as it did in the late 80s and early 90s. AFF can prance along cheerfully for awhile, but the more they claim that the kind of dogs they champion isn't even a kind, the more ludicrous they will sound to more and more people. Pro-BSLers already mock them and their allies for the absurdity of what they are saying. You can't look incoherent and retain clout for long. But I don't see any evidence that AFF even has any clout. There are worse groups that clearly do, eg HSUS and PeTA. But AFF is pretty anonymous and irrelevant and likely will remain so.
