this law sucks, the NJ SPCA was able to tweek it to their advantage- they are the ones who will be giving the tickets out- not regular policemen... all the money from the fines goes to the spca

and the actual law on the state books is not what the spca just enacted, i wish i had the actual statute, its for animals being transported cruelly.

We use PetBuckles for ours. Barley always managed to wriggle out of his on longer car rides, but we solved that by making him wear a regular harness under the Pet Buckle and connecting them together with the safety latch. I like the safety latch option (connects to the child safety latch in cars newer than 2004) because they are able to lay down. I wonder if that would be in compliance with this new NJ law though? Here's a link: www.petautosafety.com/pet-buckle-dog-car-safety-harness

i have 2 harnesses already, and am looking for just the seat belt adapter that hooks to the harness then buckles into the seat belt snap. the ones that came with the harness you just tie to the seat belt and i dont like those

Just seems like another way to generate money.
If you are going for safety, then you should also have to restrain any livestock animal being transported. Have you ever seen a wreck involving a semi loaded with pigs? Pretty gruesome. Sometimes a door doesn't get closed right and there will be pigs dropping out the back of the trailer. The lucky ones get out in town during a red light and run around until they're caught. They're either killed on site, or if they really hit it lucky a farmer will take them to their farm.

I have this one although it has been updated and changed slightly the one I have for ROcky is very similar. I can either attach him with the seat belt or hook him up with the d ring to the ring in the back of the car.

ok spoke to the local pd today at lunch since this law regards the motor vehicle laws the regular cops CAN give the ticket , its up to the cops discretion (like everything else) and its not just the spca that can give the ticket. if a law is set with DMV then regular cops can give out tickets as well

the police officer that lives up the street from me walks his two Yorkies w/out a leash and takes when in the car they are on front seat heads looking out. so i doubt I'll see tix from him.
Anyway.... anyone know of a setup i can use in a Jeep Wrangler with no back seat? There's no way my 2 will fit with the backseat in.

can you seat belt them in? or maybe weld tethers to the back area where there is no seat and seat belt them in there? is your jeep a 4 door or 2 door?

hmmm can you weld 2 tie out spots on each side of the floor, attach a D Ring, and hook the seatbelt attachment to the D ring on the floor? just like making a tie out set up in a house in the floor you can do the same in the backseat area....this way they can wear their seat harnesses and be snapped into the D ring on the floor
