Here is my latest adventure (couple hrs ago) in PB rescue. I am going to just paste the message i sent to my friends locally. Sorry for the profanity. So here is my latest Pit bull rescue adventure _ for those of you that i already PM you can ignore - the rest of you I would appreciate any help or suggestions in finding this dog a home. as luck would have it I just pulled a dog of 0f I-10 a couple of hours ago that had been hit. It had managed to crawl between some wooden posts the railing is attached to - there was probably less than 18 inches between him and the cars screaming by. I saw him there and my heart just went in my throat. I went to take care of my business and came back going the other way - he was still there and I'm like 'shit, fuck NO i cannot do this". But hey it was right here right now and he needed someone. turned around and had to drive 100 yards past him to get truck off road. Was scary, I thought he might bolt but he let me come to him and pick him up. carried him to truck. He is a young pit mix that looks a whole lot like my dog perseus. Took him to a vet i know to be assessed. Think he is going to be fine, probably a broken pelvis, he was able to stand shakily. Waiting to hear back. I will need help finding a home -I have way too many now but I am not going to just dump him. Will be putting the word out so I would appreciate any help with that or suggestions. whew! shit my heart is still beating fast. Update from vet is he has dislocated pelvis and dislocated hip. They are putting him under to pop the hip back into place.

Wow. That pup is so lucky that you saw him. Hope his recovery goes well and that you have luck finding him a safe and loving home. I'm assuming no collar/tags/microchip? You may want to contact local AC in case someone has reported him lost. Poor guy.

I will do that. I highly doubt anyone will be looking for him - no tags or collar and he looked to be in rough shape to begin with. The area of town he was in is a very poor section, full of strays. He is my 3rd pit rescue in right at a year and they have all been black and white, wth. Thinking about changing my user name to Tuxedobull or trespenguins. I think I am going to call him Tres. I will update asap and maybe even have a pic or 2.

update- the dog has a microchip and his name is "Harbor". However, the microchip people can't get a hold of his people. He will stay at the vets tonight. Vet said he worked on him for a couple hours popping his dislocated hip back in but keeps popping out. It's in right now and he is out of shock and out of pain. Will assess in the a.m.

I hope his people were looking for him. Glad you tried to find his people. Cant imagine if I lost Rocky and no one bothered to check to see if he was microchipped. Some times I take his collar off. My husband often takes it off. Sometimes he goes outside without it by accident. Thank You so much for doing this for this dog. Bless you!

Here is a pic of Harbor. Went by the vets on the way to work this a.m.-still no owner response. Was told he had been chipped and adopted through HUS (I am trying will all my might to not think negatively here). He has to be assisted in standing w a rope when they take him outside. although he is trying to put all his feet down. Vet wasn't in yet. Will keep you guys posted as I know stuff.

vet just called and said the hip is still popping out, he is going to give the dog the day off and let him heal up a bit. Gonna try it again tomorrow i guess. He is hoping that the issue will be fixed this way than via surgery. He says the surgery will work just fine but it's a booger as he puts it. Dog should be going home w me regardless on friday at least for a long wkend. He is eating fine also.

Awww he looks like a sweetie. Not a good sign, you'd think if you were missing a lived family pet you would have notified police and all local vets. Just my opinion. :/ poor guy, luckily for him, he's in great hands.

HA! The vet just called and said he got the hip popped back in and it's staying. whoohoo! He put a special bandage on to keep it in place and is now going to keep him over wkend because he doesn't want it popping back out. Looks like we dodged the surgery bullet! Btw, this vet is someone I have known for awhile but is not one of ours we use. Happened to be in close proximity and I remembered him. He told me in no uncertain terms that he would be helping me out hugely with the bill. We have a common best friend who recently died and this friend and I had actually played music for this vets grand opening 6 or seven years ago. I think I may start using him.
On a side note, a fb friend who has been keeping up with this and cross posting messages me to let me know that since the dog was adopted through HUS, they will take him back - I thinking "yeah like hell they will get this dog back". She also mentioned that the Animal Defense League here will take pitbulls even though the website says no. She gave me the name of the intake coordinator and made a comment to the effect that the dog would be spoiled and get fat there until someone adopted him. Ok, here is where I need some advice from you guys about something. Turns out this intake coordinator is someone my wife was involved with at a shelter. this person is bad news, she hates pit bulls, was always advocating for having the ones that were at the shelter put down. She was instrumental in spreading a lot of lies that caused there to be legal proceedings, which as i understand it are ongoing. Turns out the person has a history of this in another state and misrepresents herself as some sort of "expert". So obviously the dog isn't going there. My issue is I feel kind of obligated to out this person past and real nature especially since she is in a position where she can have life and death impact on the dogs I love. Advice please. I don't need drama but I love our breed.

So glad that Harbor is on his way to healing up. Thank goodness you have a vet who is willing to help. My issue is I feel kind of obligated to out this person past and real nature especially since she is in a position where she can have life and death impact on the dogs I love. Advice please. I don't need drama but I love our breed. I don't know about "outing" her because you don't want to get slapped with a libel suit, but I think that you can tell the person who referred you to her that you have very credible information about her that makes you uncomfortable about handing a dog over to her. And if you can find public information that demonstrates her past behavior, maybe send it to your FB friend or even post it on your page. I would also point out to your FB friend that their website clearly says that they do not accept pit bulls and it would be very risky to send them a dog that could be "identified" as a pit bull just because someone says it's okay.

Suzi pretty much summed up my thoughts. Def. best to just say you are not comfortable with her because the website states no pit bulls and also because of prior issues or things you have heard....you don't have to get into specifics.
Glad that Harbor is recovering.

I mean surely your friend will understand you not wanting to get into specifics but at the same time you are still letting your voice be heard. Encourage your friend to ask around if she is interested in finding out more info on this intake coordinator.
