New Hope Pit Rescue

Just an FYI, there is a new rescuegroup in SC, where the no-longer-active New Hope Pit Bull Rescue was located. The new group - totally unaffiliated with the old - is called New Hope Pit Rescue.

I wanted people to be aware of this because the ORIGINAL New Hope was a great, really solid org run by Kat and Alicia. I don't know if this new group is trying to ride on the reputation of the original or what, but I don't want people to confuse the two.

They do have a FB page, too. Where they spell the breed name "Pitt".

Thank you Mary for posting this. I sent the guy a message on facebook this morning asking him to clarify that his group is not "New Hope Pit Bull Rescue". He refuses to do this. He also claims to be a legit 501c3 org, but I cannot find anything even showing that the org is registered with the state, much less the IRS.

This concerns me for a couple of reasons. Although I resigned when I was going through a high risk pregnancy, and Alicia dissolved New Hope after trying to maintain for almost another year... we still love what we did and we are still involved with rescue and advocacy efforts. We worked very hard to build relationships and our reputation for these dogs and we pride ourselves in what we were able to achieve. We opened doors for bust dogs in SC for cryin out loud and dogs have since gone to rescue from other busts! ;D So happy for them!

I don't know his intention for naming the org what he did, or using the very similar tag line that he used... but I don't like it at all. I shudder to think what could happen if people think we're back and start supporting a group that isn't anything like the one we built. And what if people donate thinking that it's OUR New Hope?

Hi Kat!!!! Wow, this sucks. They should at least be willing to put some kind of disclaimer on their website that they are not affiliated with NHPBR.

I actually did come across this new name recently. cant remember where, but I was thinking that wow they are back. I think someone may have shared a FB post from them or something.

Oy! Yeah, see... that's what we're afraid of. And our EIN number is still on Guidestar and other non-profit data bases so it would be too easy for this group to try to collect donations using our number and well... this is the primary thing we want people to look out for. I don't know if there's anything we can do legally at this point. I guess for now we just need to keep an eye out and if anyone hears or sees anything that seems off, more than this... please let Alicia and I know.

This is the message I sent the guy via facebook yesterday along with his reply. Seems pretty catty and defensive to me.

I came across your page yesterday and wanted to say "welcome" to a fellow pit lover/advocate and rescue in our great state.

I won't beat around any bushes in asking for a favor. You see, I am one of the founders of the original New Hope Pit Bull Rescue. Although the rescue is no longer operating, I am hoping that you will understand my asking that you please clarify that your New Hope Pit Rescue is **NOT** the same organization or affiliated with the old New Hope Pit Bull Rescue. This is to avoid any confusion about the two groups and to let people know that I and my old rescue partner are not contacts for the new New Hope Pit Rescue.

Again, I do hope you understand my asking this. And I wanted to say good luck in your mission.

As I understand your concern i own the right to my name and am a 501 rescue,i do not see how there could be any confusion as you and I have different pages,I also have it linked to my facebook and my cause all under same name,I will however tell anyone who asks me though no one has,and as i am a full functioning rescue and you are not do not see the concern.AS your domain name is up for sale i can just purchase it and end any confusion if that helps.

I hate to jump to conclusions, but it almost seems to me as if his intention was or is to "leech" our reputation and to try to collect donations by duping people into thinking it is us. I posted a blog this morning so I'll link to that here too... if you all wouldn't mind passing it around, we'd really appreciate it. Heck, you can copy and paste this exact text if it would make it easier for you. (This links to a new blog I created because we can't access our old blog anymore. It's up, but the log in email is gone, so we can't get into the blog account. lol

Recently, it came to our attention that there is another "group" in West Columbia, SC "operating" by the name of "New Hope Pit Rescue." This group is NOT in any way affiliated with the original NHPBR and the utmost discretion should be made when choosing to adopt from, volunteer for, donate to, surrender a dog to, or anything else related to the rescue, placement, and adoption of pit bulls and their mixes. PLEASE share with your rescue contacts.
