Found this on an SBT forum that I mostly lurk on. The offered no evidence to back up this flow chart, just presented it as fact. Thoughts?

well, my understanding is that the APBT derives from the SBT directly and was not a new re-creation of the bulldog + terrier mixes. And that the Boston bull terrier derives from the APBT directly
And in the US at least, there's probably some intermixing of the English bull terrier and the SBT/APBT to create the colored bull terrier...

Yeah, I think there was a lot more interbreeding/mixing than this flowchart implies. This is the same forum where the mod claimed that SBTs were bred for ratting and not dog fighting, so I think he's just really trying to distance the SBT breed from the APBT/AmStaff.

That's a super simplistic diagram. Not really accurate in my opinion.

"Bull and terriers" is far too simplistic a term, to say all those breeds branched out directly from them. It's not really a useful diagram, IMO.

Glad to hear I'm not alone in thinking that. I really think the main point in making this diagram was for him to claim that SBTs and APBT/ASTs aren't related. It is for that reason and more that I mainly lurk on that forum.

Even if the APBT DIDNT derive directly from the SBTs brought into this country (which we know is true), they'd still derive from the same basic bulldog and terrier breeds. So at a minimum they'd be close cousins. There's a ton of evidence that SBTs WERE used for dogfighting in the UK even though it was illegal there. That doesn't negate their use as ratters/badgerdogs etc.
