This is Elliott... he looks a bit weird and a little lean to me... but at the same time, he looks beautiful and like he needs a home. He's not very well trained yet, but he's being worked with. He's supposed to be about a year old and weighs about 50 lbs. I've been trying to resize this second picture, but photobucket has changed since the last time I used it and it just doesn't want me to change the size I guess.

He's certainly a handsome guy. What information is the rescue able to give you about his history, health and temperament? Has he been tested for heartworm, Lyme, etc? Vaccinated? Did they do a temperament eval? These are the basics of what you should know before you bring a dog home. I think the Real Pit Bull website has a list of questions you should ask before you adopt. I'll try to find it and link.

He is really, really cute. (I am a sucker for red/red nose dogs). He does look a bit under weight. Have you met him yet? Is he with a shelter or rescue?

Did they do a temperament eval? These are the basics of what you should know before you bring a dog home. I think the Real Pit Bull website has a list of questions you should ask before you adopt. I'll try to find it and link. He's neutered and has his shots. I'll be sure to ask about the other things. She said that SHE really likes his temperament, but I don't know if they've actually done an eval. She doesn't know a lot about his background, though since he was rescued from a shelter. He is really, really cute. (I am a sucker for red/red nose dogs). He does look a bit under weight. Have you met him yet? Is he with a shelter or rescue? I haven't met with him yet. He's in Colorado so I was going to when I got back. He WAS in a rescue called Alpha (I believe), but there's a funny story behind him not being in one anymore. I guess someone was fostering for the rescue, and the person who started the rescue got put in a nursing home. The foster woman tried running things herself, but the original owner didn't like it, so she relinquished the license leaving the new person with 63 dogs to try to get homes for since the state only allows a person to have 8 dogs as a foster home or 16 personal dogs... Anyway, it doesn't sound like it was a nice time. I'll ask about tests and get back...

That's why I was saying he looked a little weird. I'm guessing he's a mix of some sort... I want to see what the lady says when she gets back to me. Obviously the whole story of the rescue is a little weird, too... I think he's a beautiful dog whatever he is, and is apparently really sweet, so I'm still looking into him for now. Depending on what she says and how he is when I meet him I'll hopefully be able to make a somewhat wise choice... you're probably right that I should try to find a reputable rescue that is still a rescue, but I don't want to completely overlook a good dog just because there are weird circumstances surrounding him/her. In this situation I won't take him unless I'm absolutely sure, but until I know I'm not sure, I'll find out all I can about him, and definitely pay him a visit before I decide not to take him.

I disagree. He looks AMPT to me.Especially in the second photo. Other than him being thin, I see nothing weird about him. Perhaps the shadow of the fencing on him makes him look different. Other than that , he looks like a red-nose sweety to me.

I disagree. He looks AMPT to me. Don't know that one, what is AMPT? I think she means AMerican Pitbull Terrier. I've seen people abbreviate this way. Sharron, correct me if I'm wrong

Sorry Dave , my mistake. You are correct Mary, I meant APBT. Don't know why I added the 'M'. My brain sometimes slips out of gear ! lol !
Thanks

I dont think he is overly skinny just could use a little more meat. Is this the dog that is in foster care you talked about in another thread?

It is. I figured, why not look into him, since I have a whole month before I could get him anyway, but the person isn't really getting back to me with half of my questions, so I think he's probably out. I understand she's probably pretty busy suddenly having all of the other dogs that had been in the rescue dumped on her, but there are some things I would really want to or need to know (a lot of which I got from you guys or this website) before I go in to something like this without too much experience.

Yes he is worth looking into especially since you have the time. If he is meant to be then he will be. At the same time I would put in applications at other rescues too. A month happens fast!

No, I lost contact with his foster... not sure if it was because someone else came for him, or if she decided I wouldn't be a good fit or what. I think I'll just wait until I get home before looking very hard... and I completely believe what you said... whatever is meant to happen WILL happen. I am just excited to meet the wonderful dog that I do end up with.
