Thank you all for the welcomes! I don't have a dog yet! I have been looking to adopt from a Rescue since buying my first house last spring. I have a 5 yr. old cat, and I'm wondering if it will be better to adopt a puppy, or a little bit older dog.

It is better for many reasons to adopt an older dog of about 2. some reasons, you know what you are getting temperament wise. They are just as easy to train. Easier to house train often times they already are. Chew and nip stage is over. And you should be able to know if the older dog will be ok with your cat. There are far more older dogs that need a home a puppy almost always gets a home where the older dogs end up spending years in rescue/shelter. However I adopted a puppy and he turned out awesome. I was looking for a dog of 2 years or younger and the day I found my dog he was the only puppy and he was the one. I have no regrets at getting a puppy but like I said he turned out to be non dog aggressive with an excellent temperament.
