I went through my collar drawer tonight. I put an old custom collar on Rocky, a black and purple one. Rocky looks really nice in purple. Sedona got Jackson's collar, a simple round steel dot on black leather that he wore for almost all of his sixteen years. She looks lovely with it around her neck. Lola, in an ironic twist of humor, is wearing a Sedona custom leather collar. Lol! This started me thinking of my past best friends, the original Pitpack. How shitty is it that we have to live out our lives watching our best friends precede us to the bridge time and again. Hug your pups tonight. You never know how much time you get with them.

It really does suck. :/
I wish dogs lived as long as we do.
I hold on tight to my dogs.
The dog I grew up with is still living and her days are truly numbered. Shes 12 and shes a Lab/Pit Mix. I get a lump in my throat every time I think about it. Shes slowed down so much, she just waddles around. Her face is mostly gray and its hard for her to stand up after laying down. Its really hard to see..... I remember her being a pain in the a$$ youngster like it was yesturday. She still gets her little boosts of energy but they are becoming rare.
My oldest dog (Bola Boy) is almost 7. I can only hope he and the rest of my crew I have all live long, healthy lives.

With Chubby's hemangiosarcoma I know anything can happen at any time. Jason sometimes thinks I'm silly but every chance I get I always hug Chubs and tell him how much I love him and how special he is to me. I feel like I never want to look back and think I should have said it more. I've never had a dog live until old age (both of my previous dogs died young-ish from cancer).
I've started tot hink that dog weren't supposed to live as long as us. They are supposed to be like shooting stars. Coming into your life, making that moment feel very special and making you feel connected to something so perfect (even when they aren't) and then when they are gone you are left sad, but your life has been touched by something you will always remember and smile on. You can never explain that feeling of 'special-ness' you feel when you've had a dog or see a shooting star, only others that have experienced it understand.

That was awesome.
I've only one regret when it comes to my dogs. Molly was with me only eight years, she came to me near death, wagging her tail, and she left the same way. She never had a sad day except the day before she died; she was very sick very suddenly. My regret with her is that I did not give her enough love. Not nearly what she deserved. She loved every person she met, every dog she met, every animal she met. She was every bit as special as any of my dogs, and I feel I didn't treat her that way. I know, kinda sad.

I often say I don't know who has helped who more. I think they can teach us so much if we are open. As far as their short lives I like to think maybe they get to cross over to their next higher level - makes me feel better.
