www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/56057402-78/dog-girl-bull-door.html.cspAn 11-year-old girl opened a bedroom door at her grandparents’ home only to be surprised by a pit bull dog. She now awaits plastic surgery to repair facial wounds from the ensuing attack, and the dog will be euthanized. Cottonwood Heights police Sgt. Gary Young said the girl, from California, was visiting her grandparents on Saturday. About 1 p.m. she opened the back bedroom door, where her uncle has earlier placed the dog for safekeeping. Young said that while the girl suffered "substantial" damage to her face in the attack, her injuries were not life-threatening. She remained at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City on Monday. Police, citing the girl’s age, did not release her identity. Young said the uncle, as owner of the dog, asked for Cottonwood Heights animal control personnel to pick up the dog and euthanize it. "He is being a responsible pet owner," Young said, adding that no charges were expected, since it seemed the man had taken what he thought were sufficient precautions to keep his dog secured.
