This is a quote from an actual "breeder" on facebook about dog parks. I trained my dogs and I have no problems with my pits everytime I go to the dog park there is an incident with an aggressive dog and it's an aggressive dog trying to attack one of my bullys and my dogs never responded never fought back... my pits embarrass all the other dogs there with their great behavior and temperment... I think y'all should be promoting socialization and training not isolation and hiding... I purposly take my dogs everywhere soo EVERYONE can see what pits really are which is AMERICAS DOG I vote for backyard breeder specific legislation.

I am glad he is ok with the possibility of one of his dogs being injured by these aggressive dogs that he encounters every day at the dog park!

I can't stand how people who are anti dog park are painted as these people who keep their dogs in isolation. RPB promotes socialization x a bazillion. But public dog parks aren't the place to do it!

Absolutely agree Mary! Where is it written that by not liking public dog parks as a form of socialization that you are isolating your dog?!

Seems like it's a real common litany w these folks of "I absolutely know my dog and am responsible owner". As if this trumps everything.

I'm not anti dog park. I'd use one if we had one, but only if there were empty. I'm anti other peoples dogs. I don't care if they say they have great dogs, someone out there is going to be full of crap.
Even if I had a different breed of dog, I would not use a dog park for socialization. Too risky.

I am not anti-dog park, but I don't really use them in the way they are intended. There are two off leash dog parks in Portland. One is very small and has fights almost daily. Saxon and I only go there when we don't have time to go to the good dog park and only when there are no other dogs (you can see the whole park from the road, so you can see if there are other dogs). If another dog arrives, we leave. Then there is one which is awesome. It has a couple of acres of fenced in park with a clearing that dogs play in and then it has miles and miles of trails and clearings beyond the fence. Fewer dogs go to that part because you need to have voice control over your dog or you might lose him. Saxon and I go there a lot more often and have never had an incident. We only run into other dogs every now and again, they sniff one another and then head on their way. We also frequent dog friendly beaches, usually on week days or colder days when there aren't many other dogs. Without a yard, this is our only way to get real exercise. Saxon has fun and it's safer than walking through some of the neighborhoods in the city (some areas have a lot of off leash dogs that are DA and sick)!
All of that said, it is stupid, irresponsible and cruel to continue to take your dog to a place where he has been attacked on more than one occasion. After Saxon was attacked by an off leash GSP in an on leash wooded park, I never went back. I worry that the dog may be a regular at that park and I don't want to have to worry about him being attacked again.
