Hi my name is Kim and I have been the owner of a beautiful blue nosed pit for 4 years. On this past Saturday my baby Blue got out of our fence and was wandering the neighborhood - unfortunately I was not home at the time. He is the sweetest boy and we love him so much! He DID NOT attack anyone but was determined "aggressive" by my neighbors and one of them got and killed him right in front of my house. As you can imagine I am heartbroken and devastated by his death. I would like to note that NO ONE called animal control before this happened. After asking around my neighborhood I feel 100% sure he was hunted down like a wild animal. I am determined to sue this guy in civil court. I am looking for some help from anyone who has either been through this or is interested in getting involved. Any help is very much appreciated.

OMG Sickening, I dont know what I would do. I only had a neighbor threaten to kill the doberman I fostered. But how did your dog get out if you were not home? Did someone break in and take him?

Not really sure how he got out but I think through the gate....probably pushed it open. Although I do suspect possibly someone purposely opened it and let him out for the sole purpose of following through with what ultimately happened. I was not home at the time. First and only time he's ever gotten out. Also, my daughter's basset hound was out as well as they were both in the fenced yard together. I need to mention that the man who ended up killing him went back in his house where he was safe and secure, never called animal control, 911, anything - then came BACK out with a gun a killed him in front of my house which is about 150 feet from his house. This is what makes me think it was done intentionally. Called a couple of attorneys but, of course, no one wants to take the case becuse the dog is a pit. I need some pitbull advocates to help.

Hi Kim, Omg I am so sorry this happened to you. I think your only recourse is civil court. If you know who shot your dog. Your dog is considered your property and this person would be guilty of distruction of property. Sad, but that's how the laws work.
I'm not sure if anyone here has been through something like this before, but please stick around because at worst, we can be a shoulder to lean on while you go through this horrific situation.
Again, so sorry.

Well depending on your state laws shooting anything with gun that close to someone's house alone is an issue. I hope you pressed charges already.

Sorry this happened to you. Did the basset hound make it back ok?

Yes the basset hound is fine, although traumatized. I am planning to take this as far as possible with criminal and civil suits. Unfortunately, the Sherrif's Office that came out to the shooting did nothing criminally (I might mention the guys wife is a local attorney). I'm trying to get an appointment with the Sherrif to discuss this matter. I cannot find an attorney who wants to even dicuss the case on a civil basis due to the fact that he was a pitbull. I can find a million who want to persecute him though. Makes me so angry.
Thanks to everyone for your support!

i am sorry about your dog. this is why its a bad idea to leave dogs outside in a fenced in yard unattended. please keep your other dog inside your house from now on.
