My kick-ass friend Cinimon Clark tells it like it is in this vid. Check it out! Some concepts: *Pit Bulls DO exist *They are NOT for everyone *They can be the BEST dog in the world for the RIGHT person *True Pit Bull temp = humilty/humble towards people *She uses the word "Heart" instead of "Gameness" *Talks about dog aggression in a very succinct, insightful way as it pertains to the APBT. Also, you can visit her training company's website here: www.cinimonclark.com/

Thanks for sharing this Mary. Could you maybe elaborate on what she says about the aggression/fight/squirrel/prey drive?

like it with small quibbles:
size doesn't have much to do with Southern heat, in my opinion. Dogfighting was a northern thing, too and the preferred small size had to do with agility. I think 40-60 pounds while correct/common 100 years ago, is not quite right today. 40-50 pound APBTs are pretty rare. I think we need to acknowledge that 50-70 pounds is closer to reality.
And oddly for me, since I appreciate someone who emphasizes the terrier part.. I think she neglects the bulldog part!
I love "heart" instead of gameness.
I do like the distinction between "aggression" (which is generally as I understand it) is about control of resources and frequently fear-based and "prey drive" which is about killing. I would like to hear her elaboration.

She wanted feedback, so I'll be sure to let her know. Those were my couple quibbles, too (my OFRN was over 60 lbs, and I'm way pro-bulldog over terrier ) She'll be making more vids soon, and I know she's giving a shoutout to RPB in the next one.

Well, I like it. I don't know what her target audience is, but it'll make pinkers shake their collective heads for sure. My thoughts:
I think the anecdote about ambient heat in a fight may be somewhat correct, but not accurate overall. While many fighting dogs were matched at lighter weights and the 70 pound dog was uncommon, there are other reasons to consider why they were/are not big dogs, such as it may have been easier to transport smaller dogs to and from fights, their terrier roots, easier to feed a yard of small dogs than larger ones, etc. While it isn't so accurate today, what with show dogs and BYB dogs, it is historically important. She did touch on the fact that form followed function and I wish she would have elaborated on the the difference between that and the fact that form follows standard for show dogs and today's non-sporting breeders. Maybe a subject for a later video?
I like that she used "heart" rather than "game." I hate when people throw that word around as if it shows they "know what they are talking about." And that she can accurately explain the difference between aggression and prey drive. I might have thrown the word "focus" in there, too, somewhere. I've seen than more times than I care to admit.
Can't wait for the next one!

She plans on making more vids to elaborate, so I know she will get more in depth. She wants to make a bunch of short snippet type vids to enage people and get them talking about key concepts of the breed. Just FYI for those who don't know, Cin has been around a loooooooooooooong time, is super knowledgeable about the breed and dogs in general. She worked as Tia Torres' trainer at Villa Lobos for a while, and she has a long history of animal training. When Cin speaks, she's worth listening too ;-) Ames, too bad the only thing you got from the vid was a misunderstanding of what she said regarding terminology.

Haven't watched it yet I stopped when she said PIT BULL in all caps comment. Need to get to a computer. When I heard her say that I didn't think it was worth spending the data on it lol.

It's sad that so many old timers nowadays get pushed aside in lieu of those with little actual hands on experience.

What she said was pit bull capitalized... Pit Bull. As opposed to "pit bull." She didn't say all caps... PIT BULL. Hope that clears it up.

"When it's capitalized, it stands for American Pit Bull Terrier".
Good vid.

^Right. I always capitalize it, for instance. I always mean APBT. When I'm using the non-technical, BSL term, I tend to write it like this, "pit bull".

You stopped watching because you misheard her? Hm. no I stopped watching because I get only a limited amount of data and wanted to wait til I got to a computer to finish and I heard her say capitol and thought she meant PIT BULL. I didn't know I misheard her until Dave was nice enough explain the context she said. What is your problem? SMH did you not read what I wrote above explaining this? lmao

Finally was able to watch. I think she did a great job explaining a properly bred pit bull and what they consist of. Seems like she subscribes to AmStaff is not a Pit Bull since she talks about a Pit Bull being bred for purpose not a look? Not sure if anyone knows, just curious. I wish people understood the difference between a well bred Pit Bull and unknown or badly bred Pit Bull. Nice Video!
I love what she has on her website:
Mission Statement... To encourage and open new avenues of respectful communication between people and animals through the development of intuition and awareness of animal and human relationships.

^ Cin is really great. She basically considers AmStaffs the same thing as APBTs. I can double check, but I'm almost positive. She knows that APBTs are purpose-bred dogs, but we cannot and will not tolerate using them today for what they originally were bred to do.
