Funny, I was coming here to post the same thing pretty much verbatim.

Colleen Lynn continues to be the biggest moron out there. I don't know what exactly Tia has said yet (been off FB) and I absolutely will withhold judgement of her. She's been around way too long and dedicated way too much of her life to these dogs. Colleen Lynn will take and twist facts/figures to suit her twisted agenda no matter who is saying what, and no matter what merit a statement has (the fact that she continues to quote CDC statistics alone shows how disingenuous she is).

Tia said on her own page that it might surprise some of her fans, but she actually supported the Legislation which had Breed Specific regulations. Now she's mad that people are saying that she supported BSL... She has no one to blame but herself.

^ I know she said that but I think it's a lot more complicated an issue, and not just a matter of her "supporting BSL" just for the sake of supporting it. I might disagree with her, but I still respect her and do believe she always has the best interests of the dogs at heart.

This was on their facebook page.
Villalobos Rescue Center
IN REGARDS TO THE WESTWEGO PIT BULL ORDINANCE - This is in part, the email that we sent to Councilman Glenn Green. As you can plainly see, there is nothing here that says we support BSL. What so many are doing is twisting my words of "showing support" as in we were supportive of the fact that he removed the BAN ordinance and was willing to meet halfway with rules such as spay/neuter, etc. providing it applied to all dogs. Again, in part this is the email that was sent......
If this ordinance is specifically for the Pit Bull breed, then the "bad guys" will get rid of their dogs to avoid any fines, violations and trouble from the law. They will then move on to a different breed. Right now the next most popular breed is the Cane Corso Mastiff. We're seeing ALOT of them in the area now. They're quickly becoming the next breed of choice for these "bad guys". So what then? We will have to create a Mastiff Ordinance? Or a Rottweiler Ordinance? And the list goes on. So what I propose is you put forth what Los Angeles did. and that's create these rules for all dogs. Why single out one breed? Why not make it safe for all dog owners and their dogs and the neighbors, etc? There is no reason that ANY dog should have to live on a chain or remain un-altered to create more unwanted puppies. Why not make it so that these ordinances come into effect so that animal control and law enforcement and rescuers have some leverage against owners who treat their dogs horribly?
So I'm sure you're getting bombarded with all sorts of ideas but I want to assure you that we are a group of level headed people that are here to assist you with anything you need to help create a safe and happy environment for the people of Westwego and their dogs.
Respectfully, Tia Maria Torres

From what I understand, she contacted the person responsible for introducing the bill to get him to amend it, and sanctioned the bill once it was changed. It no longer includes some of the extreme measures originally in it, but it is still BSL any way you look at it. I think it's totally f'd up for Torres to actually support ANY BSL, no matter how it's written. She doesn't see it the way most of us do. The bill singles out specifically Pit Bulls and similar breeds. How can that be misconstrued?

" If this ordinance is specifically for the Pit Bull breed, then the "bad guys" will get rid of their dogs to avoid any fines, violations and trouble from the law."
This doesn't work like that anywhere else in the country, why would it in NOLA?
"There is no reason that ANY dog should have to live on a chain or remain un-altered to create more unwanted puppies."
So, now it'll be illegal to tie your dog out, or have an intact dog?
"Why not make it so that these ordinances come into effect so that animal control and law enforcement and rescuers have some leverage against owners who treat their dogs horribly?"
Except that the dogs in the mauling that created this whole shebang were indoor dogs, well-kept, loved and apparently not abused.
I'm not really liking her much right now. She wants her freedom, but apparently is willing to support taking away others'.

The dogs in this specific situation were part of a BYBing operation. The characterization of them as well loved pets is part of the typical "family dog" spin that happens after attacks. Other than that I completely agree with your points.

Well, just because they were breeding their dogs doesn't mean much. No real conclusions can be made on their treatment because of that.
I think if they were abused, or violent or vicious, that would have been made apparent when the neighbors were interviewed. No one had ever complained about them, or even saw much of them, according to the news reports.
Those points aside, we may never know what happened inside the house to trigger the attack. All sorts of assumptions can be made to support any fabrication or version of the story. Councilman Green is using the incident to push BSL, Torres talked him out of a complete ban but we won't know what else he wants until the text is made public. Does anyone know exactly how the bill reads now?
