Very vivid, real dream, the kind when you wake up you don't realize you even just had a dream and it's more like a continuation of reality. I miss that dog more every day instead of less.

I dream about Nine, Kuma, and Barley often. It's true... I miss them more every day. But I'm glad that I dream happy memories of them.

A few months after I had to put my last dog Bunny down I had a very vivid dream where I was in my house, walking up to my mom and telling her how sad I feel since Bunny died. My mom looked at me confused and said "What are you talking about? Bunny is inside the house, maybe you just had a nightmare?". Right then Bunny comes out to the front yard and I run to her and hug her and I'm so happy and I kept saying "Bunny, I had such a bad dream yo had died! But you are ok. I love you so much". She was licking me and I was laughing. And then I woke up and it took me a few seconds to stop looking for her on my bed, and then I remembered and I cried for the rest of the day in bed. It took me several days to realize that the Bunny dream was actually helping me really get through some extra grief I had tried to talk myself out of. She was showing me that she is happy and healthy (she was put down due to an aggressive nasal tumor), and maybe even that she sometimes comes around the house to check in on us.
Sometimes after a while you start finally thinking you are better and something sends yo into a tailspin and you are at square one again. But slowly you actually do start feeling better because you have awesome memories of your amazing dog. Maybe Luca was just dropping in to say hello and let you know he is still checking in on you.

I had a dream like that about Ozzy...... I felt he was coming to visit me. I only had that dream once (that I remember) I never dreamt about Lulu. But..... I swear that part of her went into Mr P. Lulu loved to retrieve sticks thrown into the water and was a pretty good swimmer. Before she died, Mr P never like the water and avoided it. Soon after she died, he started swimming and now also loves to retrieve sticks thrown into the water..... And after retrieving the, lie down and chew them. Just as Lulu did.......

Thanks for sharing about your dreams, girls. It helps to talk. In the dream I had last night, Luca was a senior, and about how he was right before he went REALLY downhill. But he seemed happy/content in the dream. I kept forgetting about him, though - and then I would panic and run and try to find him (he was always at home, but it was like I was off doing stuff and he was not on my mind and then I would suddenly remember him and run to find him in a panic). I woke up thinking he was still around and then realized he wasn't. Been really sad all day.
I think there is a lot of residual guilt with him, even though I spent a lot of time at home with him, I was gone for those 3 months early last year, and he died 5 months after I got home. I feel guilty having left him.

Mary, it sounds like he is trying to get you to get past your guilt. Think about it, no matter what happened in your dream, everytime you came home he was there being happy and content. He wasn't upset with you, he was just happy. It sounds like he wants you to forgive yourself.

I know I would like to see more Luca pics Mary if you are of a mind. I love that one where you are giving him a big ol hug. As far as that guilt goes - just remind yourself of the reality of impermanence. You don't have to carry that any longer than you choose.

^ Thanks for that, I hold onto things way longer than necessary. I'll have to gather some pix and post on this thread.
I really miss my boy. One reason it was especially upsetting losing that pup I was supposed to get was because he would have been related to Luca. I'm waiting on that breeder specifically because I want another dog that carries a piece of Luca. He was just such a sweet, smart, wonderful dog. I had him longer than any dog and I'm having a really hard time with him being gone.
