It was really a pointless article. Talks about terrier history and bulldog history and tries to ignore APBT history. Supposed to be a positive article, then wraps up with, to paraphrase, "they are really popular today with young women because of their reputation as vicious guard dogs" or something along those lines.
At least it was "positive"....I guess. Just a really stupid article.

Yes it was "positive" but it really was a pointless article. Was expecting sooo much more!

I find myself being too nitpicky sometimes and I guess I wanted to get feedback to see if maybe I should just be grateful this was overall a positive piece about the breed in a mainstream mag and overlook the couple dumb things I didn't like about it.....

Well on a not totally unrelated note - I have noticed there is a small but growing number of people out there who are getting "it". People who aren't dogfighters/dogmen, but nevertheless have chosen to embrace the whole truth about the pit bull. It's a very narrow path as you well know. Other dog advocates misunderstand and think you are pro dog fighting or just don't really care about the dogs if you choose to point out areas of misinformation. On the other hand i will never condone or be able to wrap my head around rolling/matching dogs even though i have a very different perspective than the one i held previously. It's kind an alone feeling cause the pinkers are just ridiculous and yet you have no desire to be a "real" dogger. Anyway, what I am trying to say is there is growing percentage of advocates(albeit very small) out there who are about maintaining the integrity of the apbt. That is encouraging to me.

^ That is a positive thing to hear. I get very discouraged, but I do realize too, that when you spend almost all your time around rescue people/advocates, you tend to get a lopsided view of things (i.e. most of these people are the "each dog is an individual/no breed traits/no such thing" camp and it's easy to forget there actually ARE people out there who get it....)

I tried to read it but I'm not a subscriber. Maybe I can find it somewhere on the Web.

I have not read it yet either. But for the average people that I know of I have a feeling it is good enough to spread the positive. Recently I had someone over my house who is an anxiety ridden mom like the majority of us, myself included. I realize for most of us media overload has contributed to most of our anxiety. Anyway she sat on my deck and after Rocky did all his antics she said "well I guess you dont believe all that Pit Bull Stuff". Gave me the opportunity to explain. At the table is another friend of mine who has a fear of all big dogs especially Pit Bulls. She responded with her usual response. "Rocky does not look or act like a Pit Bull". She does not believe he has much of any at all. Despite how often I explain to her what is in her mind to be a Pit Bull, is probably not even of Pit Bull breed. Therefore I am grateful for a positive article on the breed in the media that the easily swayed by the media may actually take the time to read. Yes it would be disappoint to not hear more APBT history or why more woman are adopting. Frankly when we were looking to adopt a dog we did want a dog that would keep away some asshole neighbors just based on looks. At the time did not realize the anguish it could cause. But that is another story!
