SWANTON — A judge in Fulton County Eastern District Court has granted a continuance in the case of a man charged with failing to register a dog deemed vicious because it is considered a "pit bull" mix. A pretrial conference was set for 9 a.m., Oct. 9. A dog belonging to Tim Bork of Swanton was identified by acting Fulton County Dog Warden Brian Bannister as being a Brazilian mastiff mix, or fila Brasileiro, which he considers to be a "pit bull"-type dog. Because fila Brasileiro is not mentioned in the language of Swanton's ordinance, which lists breeds it considers "pit-bull types," Mr. Bork said he decided not to register his dog, Bailey. He was charged with a third-degree misdemeanor, which carries a penalty of 60 days in jail and a $500 fine. Despite the state's move away from breed-specific dog laws, the village continues to consider all "pit bull"-type dogs to be inherently vicious and requires owners to adhere to requirements for owning such a dog, including obtain liability insurance and keeping the dog muzzled while in public Read more at www.toledoblade.com/local/2013/09/13/Swanton-dog-owner-appeals-pit-bull-tag.html#K1kBCJSvZ4pWXQLt.99

"Pit bull" is so bastardized. Whatever they want it to be....just keep casting a wider net.

As we have been trying to make the "pit bull type dog" crowd understand, their efforts to combat BSL by broadening the definition of the pit bull will only broaden the number of dogs that become victims of BSL.

So for sake of an argument, let's say this guy could prove his dog was a Fila x and had ZERO APBT in it. Now it doesn't matter, because the net's been cast so wide any Fila-type dog is now considered a Pit Bull type dog. Whereas, before, when the definition was more "contained", this guy having proved his dog was not an APBT/AST or SBT, could have been left alone.

I don't understand why this is such a difficult concept to grasp. haven't we been making this point for a couple of years now? What is it that the "a pit bull is anything anyone says it is" crowd doesn't get about this problem???????????? And btw: if everything is "beyond breed" now... why does it matter if Time Magazine has an image of a "sort of pit bull" kissing a rescuer illustrating its story about the recent bust?

Like usual, the gushing over "dogs that look like Pit Bulls" by the "no such thing" crowd, is confusing.

Only a few years Emily...feels like a lifetime... Will always be Beyond Breed when it suits their purpose and agenda until the day it doesn't suit their agenda!
