I am not a big person and Matilda and George together are over half my body weight.
When George was seeing his behaviorist and trainer wife, what they told me for leash pulling is that when he pulled, stop the walk and when he checks in with me he gets a clicker and a treat. This worked for George unless he sees a squirrel or something.
I have tried this with Matilda, who thinks everyone in the neighborhood is there for her to play with. If I stop the walk, she immediately finds a stick, acorn, SOMETHING on the ground that is now HERS and she wants to drag me back home so she can put it under the bed with the rest of her toys so George doesn't steal them. I also have no idea how she still fits under my bed.
She's walked on a short leash. I have not used anything like gentle leader because I do not know that much about them and wouldn't want to use it improperly. The training fixed George's pulling and I never had to worry about it with Lucy because outside she was always protective of me and stayed right by me no matter what and never pulled.
She only pulls if someone else is outside or in the case I did not know my idiot neighbors ate ribs outside and instead of walking 2 feet and dumping them in my trash can like the rest of their garbage, they threw them in the grass right in front of my husbands car and I had to fish a rib out her mouth
Can anyone give me training suggestions or leads to walk her on? She's finally stopped constantly outgrowing collars and has only been gaining 1-2 lbs at her monthly vet visits
