Introducing my new 9 week old pup to my two 5/6 yr old pit bulls has so far been interesting. I originally wanted to go about it as was suggested to me. Take One older one for a walk with the pup.
Unfortunately by the time I got home, 9 hours after I started out, the pup was over tired. So I kept them apart. Today I let Winston in the living room and I held the pup as I walked around and did stuff. Then I sat down with her and both dogs kind of eyed each other a bit. Then the pup wanted down and she kept hidden behind my legs, she let Winston sniff her and and sniffed back. Pretty soon he ignored her and she grew bolder. She is a bit shy, but mainly because everything is new. She has to check things out before she jumps into it. Winston got all excited over her interest in him, and went into play bow mode. Scared the crap out of her! They took a break and tried again. I had to leave so the fun had to stop. When I came home I did the same thing, held her to see how everyones reactions were then put her down. Her and Winston have become pretty good pals. It's pretty funny to watch.
I am so lucky to have Winston. He's doing very good with not hurting her. He's always done so well with other dogs. He is far more playful with the small ones than he is the big ones.
Cleveland has been able to meet her, he was too interested in a toy he knew he had to concern himself with her. But she sniffed him and tried to pursue him but I stopped her. Currently he is in the bedroom whining. I have to leave in a bit, but when I get back I will try introducing Cleveland and the pup again. He can be pretty intense and escalate his fun factor quickly.
On a side note, the pup is awesome. She is a lot bigger than I thought a 9 wk old puppy would be. She also is doing pretty darn good at the whole potty training thing.
She only had one accident in the car, and that was right after I put her in and we headed down the road. It literally scared the crap out of her. So I stopped and cleaned that up.
She didn't go again until we stopped for breaks.
Here at home, she is automatically on the same routine as the boys. Plus in betweens and after naps.
The only time she's had an accident was last night when she was in Aryns room, separated from the boys. I didn't hear her wake up so she used the pee pad. Then this morning Aryn didn't hear her get up and she again went on a
pee pad.
Just going a lot easier than I anticipated. I'm hoping we're pretty solid on this in a couple weeks!
