So what? People - lots of people - used to think Luca was a Boxer. He was a purebred AKC registered AmStaff. Even if you didn't know THAT part of his history, he was very clearly NOT a Boxer (hello blue brindle). Could a shelter have labeled him a Boxer? Totally. That doesn't mean it's right or that there is no CORRECT definition of what a Boxer or an AmStaff is. We all know people suck at ID'ing breed!!!
And....?

Also, anyone know why certain orgs just HAVE to use the word DOG after the "pit bull"? Like, it strikes me as redundant. It grates on my nerves, almost as bad - no maybe more than! - "pibble" and "pitties". (No offense to anyone who uses those terms, I'm just super old school with this breed and only call them APBTs, Pit Bulls or bulldogs LOL I'm very snotty/stuck up about my breed names )

Same story just a different day. I just don't understand considering how they love to put "pit bull" in quotes and point out that no one can id breeds or pit bull has no meaning why they don't use mixed breed.

I would really love it if petfinder would actually give you more flexibility in listing the breed. You get a drop down list to pick from and American Pit Bull Terrier is not listed. Just Pit Bull, AmStaff etc. I'd like to see Bull Breed Mix as an option. Looking at these photos, it's obvious that some are bull breed mix, maybe a boxer mix, but some probably shouldn't even carry the bull breed mix identifier, like Bruno, King, Helen, Bradley... Roger I'd probably call Am Bulldog mix. And Chase, with out seeing more of him, I'd think he was a StaffBull mix, and Brady looks like an Am. Bully. Bunny looks more apbt thant English Bulldog, but it's hard to tell from angle. I'm sure everyone on the board could find something different to label the dogs as something else.

They're so dishonest. This is like the study they love to quote proving that "experts" can't identify breeds. And who are "experts"? Self identified, including pet store employees. Not breeders, not dogshow judges.
And then they use these studies to "prove" that NO ONE can identify a breed, or that NO ONE agrees what a pit bull is.
Bull shit. WE all agree that a "pt bull" is an APBT or AST.
The fact that Villalobos is accepting mutts, or that petfinder doesn't have a category for mixed breeds or that, indeed, most people CANT identify a purebred AST/APBT (which gee, is in part because of AFF propaganda.....) is no kind of proof of anything. Other than AFF has an agenda and it does NOT help

My mention of the petfinder thing was from my own frustration in trying to list dogs. Like Oliver. You could tell he was a bull breed mix. But labeling him pit bull mix or am staff mix felt dishonest.

No matter how often or how loud they say no one can identify pit bulls that will never mean APBT's don't exist or they are not identifiable.

Even if they wanted to argue that "pit bull" isn't a breed (sigh) and that's why you can't "identify" one, they are still ignoring things like the fact that Pit Bulls aka APBTs DO end up in shelters and CAN be identified and that you CAN predict behavior tendencies. Then they have dogs like THIS and call it a Pit Bull and when doesn't ACT like a Pit Bull claim, "See, no breed traits!!!"

Because when a dog like this bites someone it's labelled as a "pit bull" and everyone is silent.. instead of trying to refute it If you can't identify a dog, then WHY ARE YOU IDENTIFYING A DOG BY BREED? Why are you misidentifying a dog by a breed and then using that as proof that no one can identify a dog by breed? I think that's called a tautology.
