Awhile back I posted about Griffin, a pit bull that was seriously in his shell. He and some of his sibling were brought in as pups, not in the best of conditions, covered in poo and pee.
He was adopted and had no choice but to acclimate, and he's done well. He's boarding this weekend with us, and I can see the changes being in a home has brought.
He's not 100% and likely never will be. But he doesn't hide in the corner, or shy away from people.
The police dept. impounded two pit bulls. One male, one female.
Very good looking dogs. The female has been bred more than a couple times by the look of her.
We have another impound, a tiny male Pomeranian. I let him out in his run to potty, and kept an eye on him because I was afraid he'd dig out. Sure enough he started to dig, so I took off outside to catch him. Silly dog came right to me, thankfully. A guy had pulled in and was walking to the door as I was running out.
He asked if we had two pit bulls, they broke out of their kennel and was looking for them.
I said we did, and I took him inside to identify them. On the way in he stopped at Griffins kennel and said 'I know this dog'!
He identified his dogs, and on the way out he asked me about Griff.
Turns out, the female pit is his momma.
Now, knowing what I know, but not knowing the whole story, I just kept my mouth shut, and he didn't say anything. Other than to ask why he was there. So I told him the dog was just boarding, not up for adoption.
I've seen this guy around for a number of years. In fact I seen what was probably Griffins dad, a long time ago and may have mentioned it here on a board. He was a great looking dog. I know who his girlfriend is or was, her kids go to the same day care as my granddaughter, I know her dad, her mom, etc.
So trying to connect all the dots...
I wish I knew the whole story. Was he broke and in over his head? Why didn't the police confiscate the mom and dad dog if the situation was so bad? Just lots of questions. I know what the two dogs in impound are like. They're not scared of people, or aggressive. I had to remove the female while I had the male outside so I could clean their kennel.
She was a lover, a true wiggly pit. The male was a bit more un-trusting of me, and upset, but a treat later he was ok.
I'm both wary, and feel bad. The guy was relieved they were ok and you could tell was concerned.
At any rate, I don't know if they'll be there when I go back at 6.
