I had to "evaluate" another GSD today before the shelter would accept him. I met him today and I fell in love and my heart broke for his family. Long story short, he and three other dogs killed a calf. The family rent a home on a farm and the land owner keeps cattle out there. They were given a choice to keep the dog and move or give up the dog and keep their home. He's a beautiful dog, well behaved, well loved. Our K9 cop handler is looking for GSD, so I gave him a call today. I hope he suits his purpose, because it'll be a great home. (He wants a dog he can do work with much like he does with the k9 officer) If I keep meeting these stinkin' dogs I may end up with one some day. Forgot to mention that they contacted his breeder, and they wouldn't take him back because they "had no room". I told them a mark of a good breeder is one that will take their dogs back.

Idiot breeder.. Thats sad, all the dogs killed the calf yet the gsd has to go? And wtf no leash walking or fenced yard or kennel??? Its the owners fault as far as i am concerned.
I hope you come to the dark side mel, its fun with the long eared pointy nosed ones. Lol.... They are my 2nd fav breed to own besides the apbt

I spent some time with him outside today brushing him down and sweet talking him. He's a sweet heart, listens pretty well considering he doesn't know me. His owner placed an ad on our local radio show trying to find him a home. People have called her and she's referred them to us. So we had two calls on him today. I contacted them, one guy will be in probably Weds. to meet him. I don't think he'll last too long, which is great.

Just got off the phone with Zeeks almost new owner. They own a farm, but don't have any livestock. They're looking for an older, big, outside dog that is good with kids, people, etc. He'll mainly be an outdoor dog, but will have access to the house when the weather is bad etc. Pretty much like his old home. After talking to him over the last couple of days, I feel good about this placement. They'll be in town Friday with their small house dog to do a meet and greet. If all goes well he'll be riding home with them. He was able to learn a lot more about the dog before he even contacted us, through the other owner.
Seriolusly though, if I only had River, maybe Winston, this dog would be mine! He has a great personality, he's fun, easy going, etc. So glad he won't be cooped up in the shelter for too long!!
