We might only be 10 days into the month, but it has been rather busy here.
The kitchen manager where I work put in her two week notice. I asked for her position, and got it. I haven't done kitchen work in a very long time, but the hours and pay... I'll suck it up and do it. So now I work Mon-Fri 8-4 or 7-3. Being a manager means I have to cover for the buttheads if I can't get a shift covered, luckily that doesn't happen very often.
Tonight was the board meeting for the shelter. I was promoted to assistant manager. The manager has had some health issues crop up and when she was gone, the shelter was pretty much shut down. Dogs were taken care of but no paper work, adoptions, etc were done. I'll be picking up a few more routine duties. I'll also be #2 to call if #1 can't be reached.
I was also asked to organize a volunteer orientation/training session.
I would be instructing people on canine body language, how to handle different dogs based on their issues...
Like the dog who jumps, the one that pulls on the leash, the scared dog, etc.
I learned something pretty interesting tonight. There was a rather disturbing animal cruelty/abuse case in our county. It involved livestock. The county atty. sought a judgement that included a percentage of the monetary fines going to an animal welfare organization, or set up a fund to be used in the community for animal welfare. He contacted the board and offered the donation to the shelter. It was a sizable chunk of money. It has been sitting in the savings account. Today we voted to use 5k of it for fencing. We'll have three new areas for dogs to play outside in. One is big enough that you can play fetch, the other is a smaller area for meet and greets, or just use for smaller dogs. The other is large as well. I'm looking forward to being able to have all the dogs outside at once with out worrying that dog A who doesn't like dog C is in eye site of dog A and they're having hissy fits, which is upsetting dog B.
It has been a good year so far, and I'm very grateful!
