We've got both pups trained to accept a muzzle, and I make it a point to put the muzzle on them once in a while and feed the crap out of them to keep the positive association with it. I plan to always muzzle train my pups, I think it's important they learn to accept a muzzle in case it's ever needed (at the vet's office, etc.) so it's less stressful if they've got a positive association with it. Both pups get excited when they see me pull the muzzle out, which is always a good sign. And well, you know you are doing muzzle training right when the first one waits happily and patiently for treats and the second one keeps trying to put his face in the muzzle that is on the first one's face! Buster was literally targeting the muzzle while Roxy was wearing it... These two goofballs keep me laughing!

Wow, I'm impressed. Lebowski has to wear a muzzle when we go to the vet because he's DA. He's REALLY food motivated, and has actually been an easy dog to train. We've done tons of positive conditioning with the muzzle and he still barely tolerates it. He would never target the muzzle lol!

Its how I trained them to accept and ultimately like the muzzle. We shaped them putting their face inside the muzzle with the clicker, started with c/t for sniffing the new object, then for targeting it, then slowly increasing criteria until the dog is putting their face into the muzzle themselves. Then we work on the straps and we separately work on increasing duration.
