Last week sometimes we had two puppies brought in by the police department. The officer id'd them as shepherd mixes. I need to double check their kennel tag to see if it has been changed. When I first met them a week ago, I thought there was something chow/akita like about them. Their heads are more wedge shaped, and heavy. Today I took each dog into the office for some one on one time and training. I noticed that Greyson, the 'grey' pup has a spotted tongue. He's probably a blue more than a grey... he looks washed out, a dilute of both grey and tan. He picked up the clicker right away. I just introduced them to it, and then introduced them to a leash. Then we played and had fun. Greyson did do some pretty good sits, but I wasn't pushing for those. The other pup, Champ picked up the clicker easily, but I think he was tired because he wasn't that outgoing. Next time I'll start with him. He is the less confident of the two. When I initially met them, He is the more outgoing, and Greyson was more reserved. (for like 3 minutes) It was that way with strangers who wanted to meet them yesterday. But after they meet a person, you see who they are quickly. Anyways, I thought these guys would be a fun breed id. I've introduced them as pure bred american mutts.

They have a thick coat. The black one is more dense than the grey. The grey has a bit of wire hair on the back of his neck.

They're so cute! They look like mixes of possibly several different breeds.

Well they certainly are adorable!
Shep X is probably what they'd be called around here, honestly. Its a best guess sort if thing because its so hard when they are the pups. I like all-american mutts though, since chances are they are multi-breeds.
Also, what's interesting to me is that Buster, my tan Vizsla-Labby-whatever the heck male has a spotted tongue and I highly doubt he has any chow in him. So the spotted tongue could be totally irrelevant!

The spotted tongue is irrelevant. I did some checking and it can come up in several breeds. It isnt strictly a chow/sharpei thing. Hopefully the future adopting families will update us as they grow.

They are really cute. I love the blue coloring. Very pretty. Hard to say at this age - probably several different breeds. I do see some Shepherdy appearance in them both. The black one reminds me of a Beauceron.

The feet (coloring) on the Beauceron, and on Champ look a lot alike!
