The history of this momma dog is long. This litter of pups is the result of a vet performing a tubal ligation. I'm a supporter of an easier spay option, but obviously this vet failed in doing it correctly. The vet was also fired from the clinic that hired her, and the clinic will be performing another surgery on this dog. She was picked up along w/ puppy daddy as impounds a couple of days ago. They live down the street, and have escaped a time or two in the past. The owner paid the impound fee, but since momma has had her puppies, she is staying with us for a day or two before moving to a foster home. Puppy daddy is being fixed today thanks to an anonymous donor. (the board pres) The puppy daddy is actually one of her own pups from the litter before she got fixed. He is 1/2 Mastiff, 1/2 pit. Momma dog is pure pit. 11 of 12 pups survived as up 9pm last night. Hopefully these pups will not have health issues due to the inbreeding. They all look fine, and only one of them gave me a bit of concern. And in an even longer story, we're almost 100% sure this is Snow's sister.

I have never heard of a dog getting their tubes ties. I didn't even know that was a thing!

It's a thing I guess. But I thought they left the ovaries, for the health bennies, but took the uterus. If you're going to do a tubal, you should tie and fry and really make certain they're not going to repair themselves!
I wants one of those puppies but I can't! lol
-The Long Story - This dog, Zena, is Griffens mom. I was called last year to come evaluate him, and i posted here about him. He was the scared spitless pit. The back story on him was that the litter he was from was taken from the owner due to unsanitary conditions. The dogs were filthy w/ poo and pee. The Co. Atty. attached a clause in his probation (for a non animal related issue) that he could keep his dog Zena but she had to be fixed. He was allowed to keep one of the pups. There were no charges brought against him because there was nothing to charge him with other than a dirty house. And well... Over the course of the last year I've learned bits and pieces.Last Nov. over Thanksgiving, we were boarding Griffen. Also two pit bulls were impounded. When the owner came in to ID them, he saw Griffen and said "I knwo that dog". and I learned then that Zena was his mom and the other pit bull with her was his brother. I was like. Ooohhh... Before I knew this, I could see genuine concern for his dogs. The dogs were happy to see him too of course. He went and paid the impound fee and got them back. Last evening I spent 3 hours with him, just talking. I've seen him with his dog, and she adores him. She is not afraid or submissive around him. She is a sweet pit bull, confidant, wiggly, and very friendly. So to is Boss, the male dog. They are fed, and cared for. Up to date on vacc. and well mannered. I learned where he got her from, and I'm pretty sure that the dog I finally got from my neighbor, (lilly) Snow and Zena are all from the same litter. The age fits, the build, and some of the other features of each dog. If not same litter siblings, than at least a close litter sibling. There are a lot of pits in this town that I know of, and a lot of them are Zenas pups.
So anyways. With everything I have seen, heard rumor of, and learned from him... I am on his side. If I had to pick one. I would much rather take a person who does love their dogs, who does care for their well being, and help them become a better owner. There are a few that believe he shouldn't have an animal. While I don't condone a dirty living environment for animals, it's not the wost thing in the world to happen unless like that litter, it got out of hand. That litter had 13 pups, and he lives alone, so I imagine he was overwhelmed, I don't know. It's no excuse though and he should have asked for help in keeping shit cleaned up.
So I am going to talk to him about fixing the kennel so that they can't escape again. I have some left over chain link fencing we can use on the floor of the kennel to prevent digging. Cattle panels can go on top and they're inexpensive. They're kenneled when he's at work, but when he's home they do go inside. He has agreed to let Lisa foster the dogs, and we're talking to him about letting us help him find good homes for the puppies. I would rather help this guy than alienate him. Educate and help him, that's what we should do right?
