B is six months old now, and is getting pretty big. Too big to be a lap dog, but, try telling her that. Anyway, last night she seemed to not be feeling well- shallow, rapid breathing, very restless and whining a good bit. Turns out, she wanted the fan on, or at least that made her feel somewhat better. At one point, she was lying next to me in the bed and I had one hand on the top of her head and the other stroking her ear and cheek. This seemed to do it for her, really relaxed her and she slept a good bit with me doing that.
She also has to be touching someone or one of the other dogs or cats when she goes to sleep. She once laid on top of a six-week old kitten just to be in its 'lap'. I think this is one of her better traits- the touching. She's teaching me just how sensitive she really is to touch and presence. Anyone else have a touchy-feely pup?

LOL too funny! Dharma and Otis always have to be touching each other or us. In our laps on the couch, on our heads in bed. If we leave the bathroom door open, Otis will try to sit on your feet while you're in there! Weirdos!

B is that way too. Sometimes I'll feel her nose touching my leg as I walk through the house. Her nose keeps pace with my steps and doesn't come off. She's like my shadow sometimes. I think it's funny!

Have to say first I haven't had much experience with other breeds of dogs. We had both a beagle and border collie before the dogs we have now. Neither of those dogs was particularly interested in following us around. Outside the BC was always on the watch to run off and disappear.
We've had Sophie 8 years. When she first came home she would follow me anywhere and wrap around my feet. She's gotten a bit more confident now but if I'm in the house or yard she is beside me or in my lap. Callie patrols the house regularly but always ends up beside us or in my husband's lap. Sixty pound lap dogs...yup, absolutely!

I have two other breeds now and have had others in the past. Although the GS/terrier mix is a lover-boy, he doesn't seem to NEED physical touch or physical proximity the way my PBmix does. My Chihuahua is more concerned with seeing how far up on the bed he can sleep (most dominant position) and trying to be alpha or claim me and my things than affection. The other, like I said, is a lover but not entirely interested in a physical connection. B is very physical! She needs to be touched and petted and loves to snuggle. She's the most truly affectionate dog I've ever had. She doesn't 'just' lay on the bed, she wraps her head and neck around any part of my body she can.

I forgot another interesting behavior. I have woken to Callie sleeping on my face. I sleep more leaning away into the pillow so I can still breathe. But you open your eyes to a weight against your neck and face and feel snoring ruffling your eye lashes. Definitely a touchy-feely breed.
