Over a year ago a volunteer at the shelter told us of this little white pit bull who was kept tied up outside a home. She harassed the police department about this dog not having access to water and shade or shelter that summer. So the police dept. would drive by, knock on their door and tell them to take care of their animal. More than once this happened, she herself would fill her water bucket on hot days and report it. She would try and get the owner to give up the dog, tried to teach them the proper way to keep a pet. Kendra waited for winter to see if they would provide proper winter shelter. They did, so the police dept. said they couldn't do anything because they provided the minimum demanded by law. Which isn't adequate for a pit bull!
Kendra was contacted by the family a few days ago, they were ready to get rid of the dog. She went to go get her, she was in a plastic kennel covered in piss and shit. She took her to the shelter, bathed her, then dropped her at the vet the next morning where she was vetted and fixed.
I had the pleasure of working this morning, and got to spend time with her. Her understanding of the english language is non existent, but she does know her name.
Her social skills suck. She is so unfamiliar with attention, she goes nuts over it. I gave her a rope toy to hold in her mouth while I pet on her. She is frantic in her desire for that contact. It broke my heart when I went down on my knees, and she put her paws on my shoulders, and just trembled from the pets. She's pure bred, and I'm almost 100% certain she is a sibling of the dog my neighbor used to have. She's small and stout, very powerful! She had a great time today sniffing around the large dog yard.
There's a lot of work this dog needs, but her eagerness to be with people will win someones heart quickly I'm sure!
